The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), a top federal-controlled public university located in Southeastern Nigeria, continues to be a center of significant activity. Founded in 1955 and formally opened on October 7, 1960, UNN has three campuses - Nsukka (the main campus), Enugu, and ItukuOzalla.
Online Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program
In collaboration with eLearnLXD, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has launched its Online Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. This program combines global best practices with African realities, providing learners with advanced skills in policy analysis, public management, and institutional leadership. Africa’s growth and stability depend on skilled public administrators capable of designing effective policies, managing limited resources, and inspiring reform.
Admissions for the inaugural intake are now open. Employers and institutions are invited to partner with UNN to upskill their workforce and strengthen their organizational capacity.
In 2016, eLearnAfrica entered a partnership agreement with the Association of African Universities (AAU) to expand online learning opportunities for students enrolled in the AAU’s over 400 member institutions and other universities. The target was to make educational opportunities available to about 10 million African students.
Tragic Accident and Student Death
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has expressed deep grief over the death of a student, Nwankwo Chukwuebuka, who died in a fatal accident involving ten students. The incident occurred on Saturday night along the Opi-Nsukka Road. The students were travelling from Nsukka to Enugu to attend a concert by popular Nigerian artiste Davido when the tragic incident occurred.

The injured students were immediately taken to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.

Infrastructure and Development
“University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has been down for over forty years, during which the school decayed and decomposed to the point of near beyond recovery. Every standing structure and infrastructure, like students’ hostels, staff quarters, offices, lecture buildings, roads and the general landscape, were in a terrible state of disrepair and abandonment.
“He toured every dilapidated structure, met staff and students, and made a vow to restore UNN’s lost glory,” he recalled. “The enthusiasm was electric, the commitment genuine.
Challenges and Politics
According to the Public Relations Officer, CEC, Comrade Davidson Eze, an alleged smear campaign was uncovered after Prof. “The motivation is as clear as it is petty,” he said. “These are people who thought the leadership of UNN was their exclusive birthright. Having lost out, they have refused to forgive Professor Ortuanya for his emergence.
“For over four decades, they watched as student hostels crumbled, staff quarters deteriorated, and lecture halls faded. The university’s infrastructure was in ruins,” he said.

“As only one person can be the VC at a time, the time for the politics of the appointment has come and gone. “There is only one Vice-Chancellor at a time,” he said. “This is not just about one man-it’s about the future of UNN,” he warned.
