Food is more than simply satiating one's self. It is an art, a history, a culture, a religion, and a journey, literally.
A group of Coastal Virginia Magazine readers, who dubbed themselves the CannonBus Run, visited nearly 25 Virginia breweries, wineries, and distilleries in less than three days. The name of the trip, which would take them to nearly 25 wineries, breweries, and distilleries around the Commonwealth in less than three days, was a nod to their vehicles of choice for the journey-two classic Volkswagen buses.
Looking back, the group agreed that the most memorable aspect of the trip was the people they met and the stories behind the businesses-many of them small, family-run operations. At each of their other stops, the four travelers made a point of seeking out the “gems,” or the brews, vintages or batches that best represented that stop and the stories and people behind them.
Special thanks to all the businesses that welcomed the CannonBus Run and a shout-out to the TASTE Family of Businesses, which provided some local treats for the guys to bring along as gifts for the folks they met along the way. We encourage you, our readers, to set out on a taste adventure of your own around our beautiful state this year.

Vanagon Modifications and Culinary Inspiration
This 1984 VW truck looks like it started as a Vanagon. The middle of the van has been removed with the rear vent pushed up against the front. The rear of the Vanagon has been removed to turn this into a truck of sorts. This Syncro panel van looks plain, but has a lot going on. For starters, it has a lift kit installed and it looks great. The 16″ wheels and tires give it a solid ride. The owner says no expense has been spared and this one looks to be a full restore. I like the South African grill and the rear tire mount with extra fuel.
Just look at the picture above and admire the multitude of accessories, new bumpers, storage, etc., etc. The paint is new and she’s ready for the road.
This van looks fairly stock except for the nice Porsche wheels, but it hides a very nice camper interior. She has what appears to be a cooktop / sink combo on top of a small cabinet. Of course it also features a pull out bed and swiveling Ricaro seats. How’s this for a gorgeous VW Doka T3 camper? The camper says “Road Ranger” on it, but it looks homemade.
What do you do when you are bored with your pop top tent? You install striped fabric so you always stand out in a crowd. I don’t know where they got the tent, but it looks great.

The sideview mirrors are white, and it has a red sun shade. Place this on an sherbet-orange Vanagon, and you have a recipe for a memorable van.
These modifications not only enhance the Vanagon's functionality but also its aesthetic appeal, making it a standout vehicle for culinary adventures.
Year 2021 has more or less remained a continuation of 2020 - still limited to spending weekends in our homes. can we do with this emptiness?
