Porini Rhino Camp Kenya: An Immersive Safari Experience

Porini Rhino Camp, nestled in a secluded valley on the banks of a seasonal river under the shade of acacia trees, offers an unforgettable Kenyan safari experience. Situated in the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, at the bottom of the Laikipia Plateau in the foothills of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya, this tented camp is a haven for rescued chimpanzees and home to the Big 5.

The camp adopts a philosophy of sustainable and responsible tourism, aiming to generate income for the local Maasai community. Porini is committed to helping preserve Africa's unique wildlife, landscapes, and local communities through sustainable ecotourism ventures that benefit the local communities and give guests a rewarding experience.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Kenyan safari camp consists of just eight spacious and comfortable guest tents, each carefully sited to take advantage of the wonderful surrounding views. Each tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-power lighting and ensuite hot shower and flush toilet. The camp is specially designed to have minimum environmental impact (with no permanent structures and using eco-friendly fuel).

The newest tent is the family unit that is a H shaped and located about 20 metres from the main areas. The unit is made of high quality canvas, is spacious, each wing measuring 64 square metres and the lounge is 16 square metres. It consists of two rooms with a lounge in between. Each of the two rooms has a king size bed and a single bed, The high-quality, spacious tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and a private veranda.

Porini Rhino Camp has six spacious and well-appointed tents with their own balconies, allowing you to marvel at the huge views. One of the best features is the view from your tent, with a water hole right in front of it.

Wildlife Viewing and Activities

Porini Rhino Camp is situated in the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a conservation area that is firmly focused on protecting the local environment. The camp has the benefit of a wildlife viewing hide which enables guests to observe and photograph wildlife safely, yet in close proximity.

Morning, evening and night shared game drives are included in the rates. The guides here are incredible - you can just see they love what they do! The guides are all excellent in spotting and sharing their background stories.

Rhino camp is of course the place to go if you want to see rhino. People should be aware seeing rhinos in the wild is not a done deal as they are difficult to spot and there are not to many. The search for the rhinos makes finally seen them a fantastic reward. I was fortunate enough to spot a Mama Black Rhino with her baby, in the open, a very unusual events.

The high quality of the guides ensures memorable wildlife encounters. The Porini guides were most excellent in their knowledge and ability to find the animals. The Maasai guides and drivers and truly, all the staff were warm, considerate, and they had an impressive knowledge of nature. Again the guides were friendly, knowledgeable and fun.

The staff and guides are outstanding. Porini camps are managed and run by kenyan staff who always have very high services delivery standards and most of them are from the local communities.

Culinary Delights

The kitchen bakes fresh bread daily and dinner consists of multiple courses of high quality, locally grown produce, and served in the dining area. The food was excellent. As I write this, I kiss my fingers… incredible! I love staying in the tented camps with one of my highlights is the bucket shower. Food was amazing. I enjoyed they added a Kenyan cruine in each evening meal.

Porini Rhino Camp rates include - At Wilson Airport, board schedule flight to Nanyuki Airstrip, met and transferred to Porini Rhino Camp for 2 nights on full board basis including soft drinks, beer, house wine, gin & tonic, mineral water, return conservancy airstrip transfers, daily Ol Pejeta Conservancy fees, day & night shared game drives in open sided 4×4 safari vehicle with qualified guide, sundowners, visit to Chimpanzee Sanctuary, then last day fly back to Wilson Airport. Children above the age of 8 are welcome at Porini Rhino Camp.
