The Peech Hotel: A Boutique Oasis in the Heart of Johannesburg

Nestled in the affluent Melrose neighborhood of Johannesburg, The Peech Hotel offers an elegant and chic retreat. With its central location, guests enjoy easy access to the city's museums and the glamorous shopping and business hub of Sandton. This 4-star boutique hotel provides a personalized experience with exceptional service. Named the Best City Boutique Hotel in Africa at the World Boutique Hotel Awards in London in 2014, The Peech stands out for its understated comfort, affordability, and prime location.

Built in the 1950s and used as a family home for over 40 years, this gem opened as The Peech in 2004. James Peach bought the property two years prior, transforming it into a haven of tranquility.

Dining

The hotel's bistro offers a fresh, laid-back, sophisticated menu in an intimate setting overlooking the gardens. The wine cellar often hosts evening tastings with South African wine estates. In addition, the cozy Peech Bar showcases many independent craft beer, wine and spirit producers. Freddie Dias, former Head Chef at The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town, oversees both of The Peech’s restaurants, one of which is reserved for guests only. The other, Basalt, is something of a Johannesburg sensation, and booking in advance is strongly recommended.

The Bistro is an understated and sophisticated restaurant open exclusively to hotel residents and their guests. Light and airy architecture combines with a muted decor palette and playful touches to give the restaurant a very pleasant ambience. Enjoy breakfasts, light lunches and à la carte dinners paired with the Sommelier's superb wine selection.

The Peech Hotel in Johannesburg was so accommodating when our flight was cancelled. We stayed an extra night, and they also permitted a late checkout. The Peech was a good choice, very quiet and private.
