Nestled in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa offers a serene escape from the bustling city. This award-winning 5-star hotel, a former private home, is an exclusive sanctuary conveniently located not far from O.R. Tambo International Airport. Overview
Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa is renowned for its elegance and charm. Once cleared through the obligatory guarded gate, you'll be surprised to find a quiet property dotted with manicured gardens. The hotel features 42 beautifully appointed suites, each individually decorated with a combination of classic European style and contemporary furnishings. Some have four poster beds or high corniced ceilings, others have sumptuous fabrics and custom furniture - all however are united by a serene and luxurious ambiance, ensuring a restful stay for guests.
Rooms
Each unique suite is a work of art in its own right, with refined décor in a variety of European period themes. From the spacious and opulent bathrooms to the goose-down duvets and pure cotton linens, comfort is of the utmost importance. The suites are well appointed including complimentary WiFi Internet access and spotlessly clean. My favorite, suite 15, was divided into three distinct areas, a living area, a sleeping area and a bathroom. Decorated in an Africa theme it had animal print accents and a comfy sofa facing a fireplace (underfloor heating kept my suite toasty too). The bathroom too was spacious with marble counters and floors, twin sinks, shower, water closet with bidet, and Jacuzzi bathtub. Additional amenities included fresh flowers, complimentary fruit bowl, complimentary in room sherry, Irish Duke and Forsyth travel size toiletries (conditioning shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, nail kit, shower cap and soap) and, at turn down, a small bottle of water and a nougat.
The hotel also offers the Villa Moji, a standalone villa ideal when additional privacy is required. It has two en suite bedrooms opening out onto a patio with direct access to the garden and extra length private swimming pool. The top suite at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa Johannesburg is the two-bedroom Maison Spa Suite previously known as the Presidential Suite, an opulent sanctuary that spans two levels. It features a spacious living area, a separate dining room, a private kitchen, study and spa suite to enjoy private treatments.

Spa and Wellness
The full-service spa offers treatments from aromatherapy to hot stone massages daily. The spa building, across the lawn from our building, had a work out room accessible at guest convenience with the electronic room key. The spa itself was mostly in an adjacent walled garden area next to, and separate from, the swimming pool. The shady spa garden was filled with private corners and treatment rooms.

The award-winning Balinese style spa with five treatment rooms and three outdoor treatment salas set out in the gardens offers a variety of treatments and therapies, providing a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation. A sauna, hot tub, and garden create perfect spots for unwinding. Guests can also enjoy the outdoor swimming pool and well-equipped fitness centre. The hotel's gardens provide a tranquil setting for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful moment of reflection.
Dining
Dining at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa Johannesburg is a culinary delight. Guests can indulge in a gastronomic experience at Amuse-Bouche, the hotel's all day fine dining restaurant, which offers a fusion of international and African-inspired cuisine or head to the Manor House Bistro for private dining in an elegant setting. The hotel's Champagne Bar and the MUSE Champagne Room provide an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere to enjoy a selection of fine wines, cocktails, and champagne.
THE TERRACE RESTAURANT serves international cuisine for all meals while you stay connected with free in-room WiFi. While were were there we sampled a couple of items from the room service menu and dined in the outdoor area of the restaurant. Mornings were my favorite meal time at the Fairlawns. There was an ample breakfast buffet with cereals, fruits (fresh and dried), cheeses, deli meats, cold fish, and varied delicious homemade pastries to compete with the made to order breakfast menu. Sitting in the restaurant patio under the shade of large umbrellas we enjoyed the placid view of the nearby pool and flower filled gardens.

Its idyllic location provides a peaceful and serene atmosphere while still being within easy reach of the city's vibrant attractions. The hotel is conveniently situated near the Sandton business district, making it a popular choice for both business and leisure travellers. Nearby attractions include the Nelson Mandela Square, offering a variety of upscale shops and restaurants and the Sandton City Mall, a shopper's paradise. The Johannesburg Zoo and the renowned Rosebank Art and Craft Market are also within close proximity.
The Fairlawns grounds offer a serene and elegant respite where you feel completely removed from the bustle of Johannesburg. Once the private home of the current live-in owners, the original Fairlawns was a 10-acre parcel with horses, stables and rolling green lawns. Today it retains its park-like ambience with large, mature trees and prolific birdlife. This exquisite setting offers guests exceptional tranquility with close proximity to the city center, as well as personal hospitality that makes you feel you are a guest at an exclusive private estate.
