Over the last few years, the buttocks have received more press coverage than ever before. In most videos, magazines and internet spaces, big backsides are enjoying unprecedented prominence. The big butt pandemic appears to have taken this country by storm.
The size of a woman's posterior nowadays offers a distinct added advantage in news anchoring and it guarantees popularity in an entertainment career. Everyone seems to be leveraging their Ass-ets. Only recently a police woman Linda Okello with an attention grabbing backside became the subject of a national debate. No single body part been so heavily glorified and vilified in our contemporary history.
Most men have a fascination for hefty rears even though we are socialized to rate inner qualities higher than physical attributes. It used to be an African man thing but with the rise of Kim Kardarshian's show-stopping derriere, the captivation cuts across all races. There is also an evolutionary basis to this attraction. Already a subscriber? deep in the hearts of both women and men lays the preference of larger-than-average butt. So, is it the social media that drives the butt-centric trend? Or it is just a big booty era? It is still not clear.
It’s funny that this booty issue started way back in the old centuries. It is only that these famous so-called socialites showed us the easy way up which comprises of butt implants, lifts and enhancements. The question is what really motivates these women? Is it the men, fellow women competition or one’s own self-esteem? Well, according to Hamza, a surgeon, all women are doing it; waitress, nurses, fashion professional. They want to feel good and dress well without a masculine shape.
But just how much does it cost to get this coveted well-rounded big behind? It is only $7900 to$12,500 which when converted to Kenyan currencies is estimated to be ksh 7.9 million and above.

The Kenyan Butt Lift (KBL) is essentially the same as the Brazilian Butt Lift, with the exception that Kenyan women have different bodies, expectations and genetics than Brazilian woman. Cultural ideals and aesthetic preferences in Kenya for some patients seeking Buttock enhancement include a “snatched” waist (totally thin waist line), a feminine S-curve, full hips and lateral buttocks, as well as round and perky posteriors.
Understanding the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a type of butt augmentation surgery, which results in youthful, prominent, perky buttocks and hips and a more sensual body profile. BBL Surgery will enhance your body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter and your buttocks and / or hips fuller. You may find that you feel more comfortable in your clothing and are more confident about your appearance.
Brazilian Butt Lift removes fat from one area of the body where it is undesired, such as the waist, tummy/abdomen, thighs, flanks or arms and adds it to the backside and hips for fuller, more attractive and firmer buttocks and hips. It is a better tolerated procedure than augmentation using silicone implants, and yields results that look and feel very natural. The procedure uses your own fat, so it is the most natural way to augment your buttocks.
The Surgical Procedure
Brazilian Butt Lift - The SurgeryExcess fat is removed by liposuction from any areas you choose, and then separated from the liposuction fluid in a closed sterile system with no further manipulation of the fat. The healthy, pure fat is then injected carefully and in multiple different layers as microdroplets into the butt area for a fuller, more lifted and younger looking buttocks. The process of fat reinjection involves several passes of injections through a few tiny incisions in the skin. The procedure is designed to fill the upper and lower quadrant of your buttocks as well as your lateral hips and upper posterior thigh so that the butt appears lifted and perky.
Step 1 - Liposuction of multiple areas to gain the fat that will enhance your buttocks.

Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions using the water assisted liposuction (WAL - BodyJet®) technique. First, diluted local anesthesia is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. Using the so-called “Water-jet system”, liposuction occurs gently, avoiding damage to the fat cells which is vital to the success of the surgery. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula.
Step 2 - Safe Fat injection
Water-jet assisted fat transplantation is efficient and gentle to the fat cells and eliminates the need for elaborate centrifugation and any other preparation of the fatty tissue. Dr. Stasch will use a small injection cannula to add the fat to the buttocks and hips through small injections in previously carefully determined areas of your buttocks / hips. The crucial surgical skill is the proper positioning of the fat in safe layers of your soft tissue. Dr. Stasch will pay meticulous attention not to touch the muscles, which are a no-go zone for fat grafting in the buttocks.
Recovery and Results
Recovery after Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery is 1 - 2 weeks initially, to recover form the Liposuction. The buttocks are not painful, but sitting is not recommended for 2 -3 weeks, to allow the transplanted fat to “take”, i.e. grow in the transplanted positions. We recommend 3 weeks on average to avoid putting pressure on the fat grafted areas. The reason is that the fat cells will survive better when they have good blood supply, which is reduced when lying of them. Special cushions can be used to sit and prevent pressure on the delicate areas.
The results of buttock augmentation are immediately visible; you will see your final results 3 months after the surgery, as it takes a while for the fat to “take” and the swelling to settle. This procedure offers natural looking results, which are permanent after about 6 weeks. As swelling reduces, the initial volume you experience after your fat grafting procedure decreases slightly and some cells are absorbed by your body (on the average, patients will retain 60-80% of the transferred fat, in some cases more in others less). Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover and realize the fulfillment of your goal for a fuller buttock.

After the Brazilian Butt Lift you will have tape dressings over your tiny wounds, and tight tape dressings and a compression garment on your tummy / areas where the fat was taken from. On the same day of the surgery, we will encourage you to mobilize gently. Sitting on the edge of your sitting bone will be fine, but you will be encouraged to lie on your side or tummy during the first 2 - 3 weeks of recovery. Avoid full-square sitting on the buttocks for at least 3 - 6 weeks. You will be mobile from day one and should be back to full exercise within six weeks. No stitches will need to be removed.
Am I A Good Candidate for BBL Surgery? The procedure is best performed when a patient is fit and healthy. During the consultation, you will be asked about the results you would like to achieve from your Kenyan Butt Lift. This will help Dr. Stasch understand your expectations and determine whether they can be realistically achieved.
Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery: What to Expect After BBL Surgery
Important Considerations for Recovery
- WEARING THE RIGHT GARMENTS: Beyond wearing the shaping compression garments that we recommend after surgery, you’ll need to plan to wear clothing that supports your healing process.
- FEED THE FAT: Your body will need extra calories to sustain the extra work of providing those new fat cells with blood supply and recovering from the surgery. Eating nutrient-dense foods will provide your body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs to support its recovery. Adding in more healthy fats in your diet will be helpful during your recovery.
- CREATIVE SLEEPING: Squishing your newly transferred fat is a big no-no for at least 2 months after surgery. So you’ll need to get creative about ensuring you’re not laying on your newly transferred fat. For Brazilian Butt Lift, stomach sleeping is a good idea. It’s a little harder for you to roll over from your stomach during the night, so that can be helpful to keep you from rolling onto your backside out of habit.
- SIT ON YOUR THIGHS: One trick that helps our patients keep off their butt during the healing process is to sit on a folded towel. Roll up the towel to make a cylinder, then place that towel underneath your thighs as you sit, keeping your weight off your butt.
- NO SMOKING: Smoking is a big no-no after any surgery, because smoking affects the flow of oxygen and nutrients through the blood stream, crippling your body’s ability to heal itself. With fat transfer, your newly transferred blood cells need to re-establish a blood supply in order to survive and thrive in their new home. Smoking makes it harder for your body to build those new blood vessels and affects the quality of blood those fat cells receive during their recovery.
- EXERCISE STARTING AROUND WEEK 8: Exercise helps to get blood and fluids circulating throughout the body, and sweating is a great way to help your body clear out toxins. You want to avoid strenuous activity during the first 2 months of recovery, to ensure you aren’t burning off any of the transferred fat to fuel workouts. During this time, light walking is helpful, but you should be careful not to burn too many calories, or do any movements that put pressure on your transferred fat. After 8 weeks, your fat transfer should have established proper blood supply, and getting a good sweat session in can help pump fresh, nutrient-rich blood into the area.
- STAY HYDRATED: We all know hydration is key to health, but when your body is working hard to repair itself, it relies heavily on water to help clear away waste and move nutrients throughout the body. But drinking water alone is not enough. You need to provide your body with electrolytes, the salts and minerals that help your body hold onto water.
- KEEP A STABLE WEIGHT: Weight fluctuations after fat transfer can negatively affect your results. For Brazilian Butt Lift patients, weight gain can cause undesirable effects. Now, just to be clear, we’re not talking about 5 pounds here. However, gaining significant weight after having had liposuction, can cause that fat to accumulate in “new problem areas” - for example, a pear-shaped woman who’s never concerned herself with underarm flab may suddenly find her upper back and arms are now more likely to gain weight first, rather than her tummy (where we’ve removed fat cells during her BBL procedure).
- Maintain optimistic mindset: While the post-op recovery is sometimes difficult and frustrating, it is important to consider the amazing changes your body has undergone.
Risks and Safety
Whilst these operations are generally safe in the hands of a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon and regarded to be highly successful, there are, as with any operation, risks involved and the possibility of complications that patients need to consider. Most wound problems are minor and can be managed with simple dressings; however more major wound problems can arise such as infections, asymmetries, fat loss and delayed healing.
This is an important question that all patients need to be informed about. Dr. Stasch has never had a death after a Kenyan or Brazilian Buttlift, or any other surgical procedure. Worldwide figures show however estimated death rates from fat embolism during or after a Buttlift can be high, but more recent studies will determine the exact incidence of this complication. Most deaths occurred with inexperienced surgeons, or non-plastic surgeons, who would inject the fat into the wrong positions and areas. At Dr. Stasch Clinic in Nairobi, safety is the highest concern with all our patients, hence we take all precautions to avoid fat embolism in Brazilian Butt Lift.
Smokers are strongly advised to discontinue smoking several weeks prior to surgery and after the operation, as smoking increases the risks of complications and delays wound healing by altering blood circulation in the skin. It’s an amazingly simple procedure from a scarring point of view: There will be no scars, apart from tiny, 3mm incisions where the lipo cannula goes through the skin.

Alternatives to BBL
Doing it the natural way is believed to be safer because uses your own body fats instead of injection of foreign materials. In this, the surgeon sucks out fat from your stomach, back, arms and thighs in volumes of 1.2 liters using a cannula (a long-handled needle attached to a length of suction tubing). Then, he cleans the fat and re-injects it into your ass cheeks. However, this derriere disaster too depends with your body type as some of the re- injected fats could be reabsorbed in your body especially if you are skinny.
The Dark Side of the Trend
Senior editor,Wilbert Cooper, says that many American women have died from black market booty enhancements which are performed cheaply by unskilled and unlicensed quacks . I wonder why majority of the women forget that these big behinds that make men have goose pimples and go crazy comes with a price .Yes, my dear women, you may feel like a queen, be able to attract and get married to a wealthy guy because of your killer butt,or even rise into fame .However, remember that it does not always lead to a happy ending. You may just suffer from unequal butt cheeks size, get cancer and even suffer painful death.
