Anthony Oneal's Charity Work in Africa: Bringing Clean Water and Hope to Tanzania

Anthony Oneal's dedication to giving back extends far beyond the football field. As an E.P.I.C. (Everyday People Initiating Change) Fellow, Oneal has been actively involved in public health and clean water projects in Africa, particularly in Tanzania.

The E.P.I.C. Fellowship and Clean Water Initiatives

In August, Oneal traveled to Iringa, a town in central Tanzania, to participate in a project aimed at providing a new clean water source for the community. For 14 days, Oneal and his team worked with villagers to manage the construction of a well, surveying the area, and collaborating with local leaders. This initiative sought to address the critical need for safe water in a region facing severe drought conditions.

The project addresses a critical human rights issue, as Oneal believes that every individual deserves access to basic necessities such as water, safety, food, freedom, and healthcare.

The Dire Need for Clean Water in Tanzania

East Africa faces a significant drought, and in Tanzania, only 50% of the population of 53 million has access to safe water sources. Additionally, only 34% have access to improved sanitation. This scarcity forces people, especially women and girls, to spend considerable time traveling long distances to collect water.

The lack of clean water leads to serious drought-related diseases and malnutrition. By providing a reliable water source, the E.P.I.C. project aims to revitalize communities and improve overall health and well-being.

Financial Transparency and Community Impact

The funds raised for the E.P.I.C. project are allocated towards building wells and covering in-country expenses, including travel, lodging, food, materials, and labor. These funds also support training for educators and cover maintenance for the water well project for up to 5 years.

By donating to these initiatives, individuals become part of a collective impact model of giving, creating a ripple effect of positive change across the world.
