Weather in Africa in June: Average Temperatures and Rainfall

Climate in Cape Town

Cape Town and much of the Western Cape experiences the opposite in climate with a winter season that sees greater chances of rain. It is still intermittent with beautiful, crisp days.

Safari Destinations in June

June is one of the nicest months to travel to Zambia to go on a safari in one of the country's outstanding National Parks. It is the start of the dry season, so there is zero rainfall, making the walking safaris and fly camping that Zambia is so famous for very enjoyable indeed. Many of the camps have only just reopened after the rainy season.

June is the start of the cooler dry season in Hwangwe and Mana Pools and one of the best times for wildlife sightings in both Parks. The many waterholes in Hwangwe become a magnet for the wildlife as the surface water starts to dry out, and the vegetation dries back too, making it easier to spot wildlife.

Tanzania Safari

In the first half of June, the rainy season dwindles down, and Tanzania's dry season and peak tourist season begins. Drier conditions are excellent for a range of outdoor activities, from safaris to watch the wild animals to mountain hikes. June through October is a comfortable time to go on safari because temperatures are warm, humidity is lower, and there are fewer bothersome mosquitoes.
