The "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise, created by Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara for Sega, has become a global phenomenon. This franchise follows the adventures of Sonic, a supersonic blue hedgehog, as he battles the evil Doctor Eggman and his robotic army. The original game was released on June 23, 1991, for the Sega Genesis, boosting Genesis sales dramatically.

While the main series consists of platformers developed by Sonic Team, various studios have created spin-offs in genres like racing, fighting, party, and sports. The franchise's recurring elements include fast-paced gameplay, level locales like Green Hill Zone, and a ring-based health system. Sonic typically sets out to thwart Eggman's plans for world domination, navigating levels filled with springs, slopes, and vertical loops.
The Rise of Knuckles
Knuckles the Echidna first appeared in 1994 in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" as an antagonist, tricked by Dr. Robotnik into believing Sonic and Tails were thieves. Since then, Knuckles has become a significant character, playing both supporting and major roles as Sonic's friend and rival. He has featured in numerous Sonic games and animated series, including his debut in episode 5 of "Sonic X."

Knuckles Glitches and Memes
In later games like "Sonic '06" and "Sonic Boom," glitches involving Knuckles became popular, often exploited by gamers and "Let's Players." Game Grumps, a Let's Play channel, featured memorable Knuckles glitches in their Sonic '06 playthrough, creating moments of comedic frustration. The phrase "& Knuckles" originated from a Steam bundle of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" and "Sonic & Knuckles," humorously suggesting Knuckles was forcibly added to the original game.
Knuckles Sings refers to a series of animated videos featuring a goofily drawn Knuckles singing various songs. On February 20th, 2017, YouTube animator Gregzilla uploaded a video in which he reviewed Sonic Lost World. Early in the video, a goofily drawn Knuckles appears for a second. The review gained over 266,000 views. Over the following months, several other Knuckles Sings variations appeared on YouTube, with most of the popular versions created by YouTubers FrameRater and Sonic Plush.
The Ugandan Knuckles Phenomenon
Ugandan Knuckles is the nickname given to a depiction of Knuckles created by YouTuber Gregzilla, which is often used as an avatar by players in the multiplayer game VRChat who repeat phrases like "do you know the way" and memes associated with the country Uganda, most notably the film Who Killed Captain Alex?.
The Way, not to be confused with Da Wey, is a sub-dimension that was created as a new home world for Aku Knuckles. Aku Knuckles created this dimension to reside in after realizing that due to the uprise of the Ugandan Empire, the volcano of Uganda would not make a suitable home anymore. This Sub-Dimension was not known to the general public for years. That is until Aku Knuckles became more open about his life and as such, allowed some members of the Ugandan Tribes access to his dimension. For the longest time this was only between him and the other Knuckles, but one day in January 2018, He decided to allow his Dimension to be known to the rest of the world. To this day, it has become a popular tourist attraction for Ugandan Knuckles and their allies.
The main platform is a big red rectangular structure. This is where beings first spawn in while entering the dimension. There is a poorly drawn Knuckles face painted on the spot where you materialize after you have crossed over from reality to the Sub-Dimension.

The Memorial is a strange structure. This is odd as there is no names listed for any of the Knuckles and so far, no member of the Knuckles Tribe has said they recognize any of the Knuckles that are being memorialized.
The Skull Throne is located on another floating platform that is connected to the main one by a wooden bridge.
The most important landmark of this Sub-Dimension is The Wall. The Wall is built in front of another massive platform that is located very far from the main structure. This platform is Only accessible by Knuckles who must Glide over to it. On the wall, the text that reads "Behind this wall is THE WAY" is written beside another poorly drawn Ugandan Knuckles. This is typically the main area where Aku Knuckles likes to hang out in.
There is a strange Island located off in the far distance from the main red platform. This island is so far away that it's hard to make out any solid details. However from what we can see is that the island seems to have a rocky shore, and green vegetation. The island is also especially difficult to get to because in order to reach it, you must make a sacrifice. All Knuckles and non-Knuckles alike must first Break their Arm, before attempting to fly, Glide, or swim to the island. The Knuckles that have survived the journey claim that there is a small family of Velociraptors living on the Island as well as a large Knuckles with an Eldritch crown or head gear, brown-ish green fur, Yellow reptilian lizard-like eyes, and a white T-Shirt that says "Zeox" on the front.
There are various strange creatures that live in this Sub-Dimension.

- Aku Knuckles is the creator and supreme ruler of this Dimension.
- Can you feel the way?
- The Knuckles Doll is a creature that lives in this dimension. The Knuckles Doll is as it's name suggests, a sentient plush toy that resembles a Knuckles. Some say that it's simply a possessed plush. However the interesting thing about this creature is, that it is not melting. If you touch it, it's skin is as cold and hard as a metal bowel that was put in the fridge. So how this creature's body looks like pudding as it moves is unknown.
- The Knockles is a creature that lives in this dimension. It appears to more closely resemble the original Knuckles The Echidna, instead of a Ugandan Knuckles. The bizarre thing about this strange species, is that they seem to only be able to move their heads slightly up and down. These creatures only way of locomotion is to slide across the ground on their never moving feet.
- There is a single Siamese Cat that lives in this dimension.
- Some people claim that there is a Tiger that lives behind The Wall.
- Some people claim that there is a strange Knuckles with a T-Shirt that says "Zeox" on the front lives on the strange Island.
This Sub-Dimension is no longer Aku Knuckles main home. Aku Knuckles now lives on a Floating Island over Toxic Uganda.
This meme, often seen with a poorly rendered 3D model of Knuckles, took the internet by storm in early 2018. The character's distinctive appearance and the repetitive use of phrases like "Do you know the way?" made it both humorous and somewhat controversial.
