The official Mauritius Airport name, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), was chosen in honour of the country’s first prime minister. As the only airport on the island, Mauritius Airport is a critical hub for tourism, welcoming more than four million passengers annually.
The airport is located at Plaine Magnien, 48 km (30 mi) southeast of the capital city of Port Louis. Travel options from the airport to the city center include taxis, private transfers, and buses.
The airport was previously known as the Plaisance Airport. It has direct flights to several destinations in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe, and is home to the country's national airline, Air Mauritius.

General Information
Mauritius International Airport’s terminal covers 57,000 square meters. Mauritius Airport has a single terminal that serves both international and domestic flights.
The Ground Floor is used for domestic departures to Rodrigues Island and houses the Arrivals Hall for all flights, whereas Level 1 is used for international departures.
Each floor is equipped with services necessary for the modern traveller such as currency exchange booths and ATMs, accessible toilets and baby changing rooms, information points, viewing platforms and comfortable seating areas.

The majority of Mauritius Airport shops are located in the Departures Area, although there are a handful in the Arrivals Hall also. There is also a great selection of bars and restaurants and a business lounge for those looking for a place to relax before taking off.

For passengers who require special assistance during their travels, Mauritius Airport features basic accessibility services such as elevators, ramps, disabled parking and accessible bathrooms.

Transportation
There are regular bus services to the airport from Port Louis and other tourist centres. You can reach Plaine Magnien by car via the Royal Road and main connecting roads. Hotels in tourist areas such as Grand Baie, Flic-en-Flac, and Belle Mare offer shuttle services.
By Bus
Catch the 198 Bus to Port Louis Victoria Square Bus Station in the city centre for 85 minutes. Buses depart every 15 minutes.
BOCS provides two regular bus services between Mahebourg Bus Station and Curepipe Jan Palach South Bus Station (Route 9) and Mahebourg Traffic Centre and Rivière des Gallets (Route 10).
By Taxi
Take a Mauritius Airport taxi from outside the terminal to anywhere on the island. Mauritius Airport taxis can be take from the Ground Level at any time of day, although if you’re arriving at night or during the busy season, there may be longer wait times.

Parking at Mauritius Airport
There are hundreds of car spaces - including disabled parking - spread across several car park blocks within walking distance of the airport terminal, which makes parking very convenient and easy.
Mauritius Airport parking is very affordable with prices ranging from €1 (MUR 50) an hour to €6 (MUR 300) a day. Furthermore, there is a drop-off zone on the First Floor where visitors can wait for free for up to 15 minutes.
Short-term parking areas are located closest to the terminal. These parking areas are designed for passenger pick-up and drop-off. The charging system is hourly. A tiered charging system applies for up to 1 and 8 hours. There are 1-hour, 2-hour and 4-hour rates.
Long-term parking areas are located slightly further away from the terminal building. This car park is also within walking distance of the terminal. These parking areas are designed for parking needs lasting several days or weeks.
Car Hire
Car hire offices are located within the terminal building at Mauritius Airport. The offices are situated on Level 0 in the Car Rental Booth area. Local and international car hire companies, including Avis, First, Europcar, Dollar, Budget, Hertz, Sixt and AKD, operate at the airport.
After making your reservation, you can collect your vehicle in the car park area just outside the terminal building.
Tips for Your Visit
- Visit Mauritius from May to December for cool, dry, sunny weather and 8 to 10 hours of daylight.
- Avoid the cyclone season from January to March.
- Arrive at Mauritius Airport 3 hours before an international flight.
- Check in online for Air Mauritius from 30 hours up to 2 hours before scheduled departure.
- After completing online check in, drop checked bags at the airport baggage drop counter.
