The sophisticated Pigalle group of restaurants is owned by the visionary and legendary Naldo Goncalves. It was Naldo who found the five original Vilamoura restaurants, which he sold in 1996. He stayed on with the group until 2000 and in 2003 Pigalle Cape Town opened its doors and embarked on a new voyage in the restaurant world. Pigalle Cape Town was followed by Pigalle Bedfordview, Pigalle Sandton (both in 2005) and Pigalle Melrose in 2009.
While each Pigalle has its own unique ambience and décor, the extremely high standards run across all. Pigalle is an award-winning seafood restaurant in the Green Point neighborhood of Cape Town with a reputation for fine dining and full experience. The décor is decidedly upscale, with a red carpet entrance and giant iron chandelier that makes you feel as if you’re entering an awards ceremony rather than a restaurant.
The inside of Pigalle is incredibly spacious, with room for more than 300 guests and even a dance floor so you can groove to the live band. There’s also a small cocktail bar for anyone dining alone which offers numerous Champagne selections and African wines along with your traditional fare.
Where Pigalle truly shines is the food. They offer set menus for large and small groups or you can order a-la-carte. My friends and I enjoyed the trinchado - cubes of beef with a tangy, spiced sauce - as an appetizer before moving on to the main event. I opted for the ostrich filet because how often do you get to try that? It came perfectly grilled and glazed with a red wine sauce and was easily one of the best meals I’ve ever tasted.
Cape Town’s coastal location means a seafood feast is required. Pigalle is the place for moist langoustines, prawns with peri-peri sauce, and Mozambican prawn curry. But be warned: The décor seems to be floundering in the 1980s, and if you find cover bands a touch cheesy, request a table far from the dance floor. Dinner is around 1,000 rand for two.

Pigalle restaurant provides a quiet and gentle evening with romantic jazz, subdued lighting and good food. The food at Pigalle is good. Solid favourites cooked well and at a decent price.
Chef Paul Dimitrov has put a menu together filled with some of the famous signature dishes that Pigalle has become famous for - and a few other outstanding dishes too. Pigalle has become famous for cooking seafood well - and the seafood here is really highly recommended. It is done in a Portuguese style that enhances the flavour.
The Tandoori prawn starter that I chose was shallow fried, leaving the prawns delightfully succulent. My main course was a wonderful fillet of kingklip covered with sundried tomatoes and served on a bed of fresh asparagus tips. For a dessert I chose the pavlova. It was a tough decision because the creme brullee kept on teasing me. I finished off my meal with a good espresso.
