Peter Hammond: A Life Dedicated to Missions and Reformation

Peter Hammond, born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1960, and raised in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), is a missionary, evangelist, and author whose life has been dedicated to spreading the Gospel and supporting persecuted Christians, particularly in Africa.

He was converted to Christ on 3 April 1977 at a cinema in Pinelands. Peter worked with Scripture Union and Hospital Christian Fellowship before serving in the South African Defence Force. He studied at Baptist Theological College (now Cape Town Baptist Seminary), earning a Christian Missions Diploma, and later received a Doctorate in Missiology from Whitefield Theological Seminary and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity.

Founding and Leading Frontline Fellowship

In 1982, he founded Frontline Fellowship, pioneering evangelistic outreaches in war zones like Mozambique, Angola, and Sudan, delivering Bibles and aid despite facing extreme dangers.

Dr. Peter Hammond is also the Director of the Christian Action Network and the Chairman of The Reformation Society. He has pioneered evangelistic missions and established Christian schools and Bible colleges throughout Africa, particularly in Sudan to persecuted Christians.

Missionary Activities and Challenges

Since 1982, often travelling by off-road motorbike, Peter has travelled hundreds of thousands of kilometres to deliver Bibles to persecuted Christians in Africa and Eastern Europe. He has proclaimed the Gospel in 38 countries on four continents.

In the course of his missionary activities, Peter has been ambushed, come under aerial and artillery bombardments, been stabbed, shot at, beaten by mobs, arrested and imprisoned. On some missions he has flown far behind enemy lines to the Nuba Mountains in central Sudan with tons of Bibles, books, medicines and relief aid. He has walked throughout the war devastated Nuba Mountains showing the Jesus film in Arabic, proclaiming the Gospel, training pastors and evading enemy patrols. The Frontline mission base and high school in Sudan repeatedly came under aerial bombardment by the government of Sudan Air Force (10 times in 18 months). Over the years, 20 people involved in Frontline Fellowship outreaches have been imprisoned in Marxist or Muslim countries. Yet, by the grace of God, everyone was freed in response to persistent prayer and pressure (Luke 18:1 - 5).

Delivering Spiritual Ammunition

Frontline Fellowship is committed to providing "Shipments of Spiritual Ammunition for Spiritual Warfare". Peter praises God for shipments of Bibles and Christian books. For example, a 20-foot container from Eagles Nest Ministries, a 30-foot container of World Missionary Press Gospel booklets (over two million Gospel booklets, each 50-pages all Scripture, in 15 languages), and 790 Bibles in indigenous African languages from the Bible Society.

All told, over 40 tonnes of literature to offload, sort, categorise, designate and distribute.

The Power of Prayer

Peter Hammond preaches on the power of prayer and obedience to God, emphasizing that Christians are not destined for defeat but for victory. He shares inspiring stories of how prayer has changed the course of history in countries like China, Mozambique, Angola, Berlin, Romania, and Albania, where God intervened in miraculous ways to open doors for the Gospel and defeat oppressive regimes.

Hammond encourages believers to trust in God's sovereignty and the transformative power of prayer to impact nations and bring about change.

Country Situation Outcome
