What is the Opportunity Funds Program?
The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) works closely with students through regularly scheduled meetings and seminars to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and scholarships to attend colleges and universities in the United States. It also partners with the EducationUSA Advising Center for its participants.
Eligibility and Participation
Applicants are welcome from all the states in Nigeria. However, students must be able to reach their offices in Abuja or Lagos on a monthly basis during the program for full participation. Students will meet monthly and participate in lectures, book clubs, community service activities, and test preparation.
The selection of finalists for OFP is highly competitive, given limited funding. Deadline for application is May 30.
EducationUSA Advising Center
Selections are made through an application process and through the membership program of the EducationUSA Advising Center. The Consular officer are available to talk about student visas and navigating the application process.

College Clubs (CCC)
CCC advisers work intensively to prepare students for the application process. CCCs are open to students in grades 8-11 who are in the top 10% of their class. If studying in a college or university is a goal, this intensive group advising provides extra support for motivated, high-performing students. Some CCC students also qualify for the Opportunity Funds program.
EducationUSA advisers also work with CCC students to develop an alternative education plan in case studying in the United States does not work out for them. CCC advisers organize student activities, including study groups, intensive SAT and ACT preparation, reading assignments, lectures, and community service projects.
Impact and Reach
More than 150 colleges and universities have enrolled Opportunity Funds students since 2006. More than 140 young men and women, members of the EducationUSA, who have received offers of admissions and scholarships were sent-off during a four hour PDO session for the fall semester.
Almost one thousand four hundred students registers and participates in the fair from Nigeria higher institutions.

- EducationUSA Academy: Offered a unique cross-cultural experience and provided direct insight into pursuing post-secondary degrees in the United States. The EducationUSA Academy completed its final season of programming in the summer of 2024. Since its inception nearly a decade ago, the Academy has hosted over 1,500 students from 100 countries.
- MOOC Camps: Facilitated discussions around massive open online courses (MOOCs), Open Courseware, and other free online courses. Embassies and consulates in more than 60 countries are currently participating in MOOC Camps with subjects ranging from entrepreneurship and college writing to science and technology.
- Higher Education Professionals: EducationUSA also offers Local/ National School Counselor Training for High School Counsellors.
Grants and Funding
The Opportunity Funds Program is supported through grants. Grants 101 cover various aspects such as Grant Policies, Grant Eligibility, Grant Terminology, Grant-Making Agencies, Grant Systems, Grant Programs, Grant Careers, Grant Reporting, and Grant Fraud.
