Overlooked by the dramatic snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy is in central Kenya’s Laikipia County.
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Kenya's Laikipia region. Set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, Ol Pejata Bush Camp provides an authentic African safari experience.
The camp is located on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River within a 100,000-acre wildlife sanctuary. Out of all of the parks and reserves in Kenya, Ol Pejeta Conservancy possesses the highest density of wildlife.
In addition to offering a classic Big 5 safari, Ol Pejeta private conservancy is home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the world, as well as about 40 rescued chimpanzees. It’s home to the two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet and many other endangered animals, all protected around the clock by dedicated rangers.
Some animals frequently sighted are here buffalo, leopard, Grevy’s zebra, and Jackson’s hartebeest. It is also a working wildlife conservancy and cattle ranch, and guests are encouraged to take part in the camp’s special Interactive Conservation Safari, a 4-night experience.

Interactive conservation activities include day and night game drives as well as traditional safari walks. But the camp also has some unique activities as well like a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary, home to almost fifty rescued chimps transferred from another sanctuary originally started by expert Jane Goodall.
Ol Pejata researchers and rangers educate guests about wildlife and offer opportunities to track local elephant, lion, and rhino populations. They can even use radio-tracking equipment to locate Toki, the resident cheetah and Baraka, a blind black rhino.
As with all Asilia camps, staying at Ol Pejeta Bush Camp allows guests to contribute to conservation. You can also get involved by helping with canine training or recording lion sightings for the research team.
Accommodation at Ol Pejeta Bush Camp
Accommodations at the camp consist of six traditional East African safari tents overlooking the river. These simple, comfortable accommodations are placed on non-permanent, eco-friendly structures to lessen the environmental impact.
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is an eco-friendly tented camp that has just seven down-to-earth tents. Accommodating a limited number of guests ensures that you enjoy a truly authentic African experience that is perfect for intimate family vacations and romantic safaris.

Each tent is furnished with a comfortable bed and warm blankets for winter mornings and re-chargeable solar lights. En suite bathrooms have hot-water bucket showers and flushing toilets. The en suite bathrooms include a flush toilet and sink.
There are magnificent views of Mount Kenya and the wildlife is never far from camp thanks to a popular salt lick on the opposite bank of the river.
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp focuses on providing a traditional and classic East African tented safari experience. There is a tented lounge and dining area, as well as outdoor seating and a campfire for cosy nights under the African stars.
The main camp utilizes natural colors and materials in harmony with its surroundings. At the heart of the camp is a large mess area looking out over the sprawling plains. Its comfortable sofas and armchairs as well as the open sides invite guests to come in and relax. Meals are enjoyed under canvas in the dining tent.
Meals are served in the tented dining area and feature home-style cuisine with a gourmet twist made from fresh, organic beef, lamb, and chicken sourced from surrounding community ranches. Breakfast includes plenty of fresh fruit as well as homemade muesli, pancakes, hot meals and ‘mandazis', the local speciality doughnuts. Picnic breakfasts and bush meals are delightful alternatives.

We stayed 4 nights at each property. The length of time at each site worked very well for us to feel that we had a good experience at each. In addition, the three locations provided differing experiences, which was greatly appreciated.
We sincerely loved our stay at The Safari Cottages in Ol Pejeta. The owners are warm and the personal staff makes every meal special - they have a wonderful format of hospitality in a fabulous location. The staff and the opportunity to “meet” the last three remaining Northern White Rhinos is what makes this camp so special.
