Mexico is scheduled to face Cameroon in a friendly match on June 10 at San Diego's SnapDragon Stadium. This will be El Tri's first match in the venue, which opened in August 2022.
The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) have announced that the historic 20th edition of the MexTour will kick off with this game. Tickets went on sale Monday, May 8. This match will bring additional attention to the venue that could soon house an MLS franchise.
Background and Recent Form
Heading into a new World Cup cycle, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) is looking to bounce back after a disappointing group stage exit in Qatar 2022. Following the tournament and a contract expiration for former coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino, changes in leadership have emerged. In January, Rodrigo Ares de Parga was hired as executive director of national teams. Cocca was then brought in as manager in February, and earlier this week, Jamie Ordiales left his post as sporting director for the Mexico men's national teams.
Ordiales' replacement, as well as the position of FMF president after the upcoming end of Yon de Luisa's term, are expected to be announced during a May 22 meeting between Mexican club owners.
Mexico arrive at the game after a win over Guatemala in Mazatlán Sinaloa and are looking to continue their good form under Diego Cocca. In a friendly during a non-FIFA window, Mexico settled for a 1-1 draw with the USMNT, the current title-holders of the CONCACAF Nations League and Gold Cup.

Mexico have not had bad results recently, but they have not been great, either. Their last win before beating Guatemala came against Suriname, with an own goal and a strike from Johan Vásquez sealing the victory. After that, Cocca overcame some criticism with a positive draw against the USMNT. Antuna scored in the second half and it took a late goal from Jesús Ferreira for the USA to get something out of the tough tie.
