The Mexican National Team delighted their fans with a comprehensive performance against Ghana on Saturday at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, securing a 2-0 victory in their international friendly match. The goals came from Hirving "Chucky" Lozano and Uriel Antuna.
This MexTour event marked the third instance of international soccer competition at Bank of America Stadium in 2023. During one of those dead-ball situations, Ghana were forced to make an early substitution in the 28th minute after an injury to Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo led to Clermont's Alidu Seidu coming on in his place.
First Half
The match was even in the first half, but unlike in previous performances, Mexico displayed a coordinated style defensively throughout the entire game. Ghana, however, dominated 54% of ball possession time, yet simply could not get a shot on goal in 90 minutes, only generating four opportunities.

Following a scoreless first half, Mexico appeared more galvanized coming out after the midway break. El Tri pushed forward, eventually earning a free-kick opportunity that set the team up for their opening goal.
After Luis Chávez quickly sent the ball to Lozano, the winger pounced on the opportunity by cutting into the 18-yard box and sending a low shot into Ghana's net in the 57th minute. The first goal came in the 57th minute via Lozano, who had not scored for Mexico in quite some time.
Given additional boosts from second-half substitutions, Mexico soon doubled their lead.

Mexico, on the other hand, had 12 chances and four shots on goal. In addition, Edson Alvarez had a great game, confirming his status as the team's leader on the field and continuing the great moment he is having with West Ham in the Premier League.
Raul Jimenez was unable to score, but was involved in the game and generated opportunities for his teammates.
Previous Encounters
Mexico and Ghana’s most recent meeting came in June 2017, when the North Americans won 1-0 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Elías Hernández scored the friendly’s only goal, converting from the penalty spot after 31 minutes.
Before that clash six years ago, the countries had not met since Mexico secured a 2-1 friendly victory at London’s Craven Cottage nearly 10 years earlier. Although Michael Essien gave Ghana the lead early in the second half of the March 2008 clash, a Mexican side coached by Hugo Sánchez turned the scoreboard on its head in the final 15 minutes.
