ShebaMiles is the loyalty program of Ethiopian Airlines, designed to reward frequent flyers and provide a range of benefits. Members can earn miles by travelling on Ethiopian or partner airline flights and by using the services of programme partners. These miles can then be redeemed for various rewards, turning your dream trip into a reality.
Enrolling in ShebaMiles is easy-and free! With the ShebaMiles program, it's easy to earn miles fast. Whether you're flying, staying at your favourite hotel, or simply dinning at your favorite restaurant, you will earn miles. We have partnered with a variety of companies to give you even more ways to earn miles every day.
Earning Miles
Miles are like the currency of the ShebaMiles programme. You have now a world of opportunities in front of you to earn miles. The more Miles you earn, the more awards you reap.
You can earn Miles in several ways:
- On flights with Ethiopian and our partner airlines.
- By staying in a hotel or renting a car with one of our partners.
- On daily expenses when you pay with a partner credit card.
- Earn miles every time you dine at participating restaurants.
- Buy the miles you need to get closer to your next award.
The miles you earn on Ethiopian Airlines flights will be based on the distance you travelled and the fare paid (booking class). Not all fare classes are eligible to earn Miles. As a ShebaMiles member, you earn Miles on all eligible flights with Ethiopian, ASKY, Malawian Airlines, GOL and all Star Alliance member airlines airline partners.
Important Notes on Earning Miles:
- ShebaMiles is an individual program and miles are only awarded to the member who has flown on the flight.
- Miles will be accrued only for members who board a flight.
- Bonus miles will only be credited for flights that are eligible for mile accrual.
- When travelling alone and using multiple seats to carry bulky luggage such as instruments or paintings, miles will only be accrued for one person.
- Under no circumstance will mile credit be granted for flights not boarded due to delay, cancellation, etc.
- Duplicate registration of Mile with Service Partner program is prohibited.
- Once miles have been credited to a Service Partner program, they cannot be converted to ShebaMiles Miles.

Status Miles and Tier Qualifying Segments
Status Miles and Qualifying Segments help determine your ShebaMiles membership level. Status Miles enable you to gain status and move up a level as a ShebaMiles member. Tier Qualifying Segment enables you to gain status and move up a level as a ShebaMiles member.
Status Miles are miles that are counted to achieve the different tier levels of the Program- Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The more Status Miles you earn in a given program calendar year, the higher your membership tier. Each Status Mile you earn is valid within the program calendar year it is earned. Status Miles are different to Award Miles in that they can only be earned in few ways.

A tier Qualifying Segment is any Ethiopian Airlines flight excluding flights with award tickets. Ethiopian Airlines domestic flights are not counted towards tier qualifying segments. Ethiopian Airlines international flights are counted towards tier qualifying segment according to fare class.
You will earn 1 Qualifying Segment per flight segment flown on Ethiopian International flights on booking classes C, D, J, P, Y, G, S, and B.
You will earn 0.75 Qualifying Segment per flight segment flown on Ethiopian International flights on booking classes M, K, L and V.
You will earn 0.50 Qualifying Segment per flight segment flown on Ethiopian International flights on booking classes H, U, Q and T.
You will earn 0.25 Qualifying Segment per flight segment flown on Ethiopian International flights on booking classes E, O, and W.

All Partner airline flights will not be counted towards tier qualifying segments (effective January 2022).
ShebaMiles Membership Tiers and Benefits
There are four levels of ShebaMiles membership that determine the benefits you receive when you travel. On signing up for the ShebaMiles programme, an individual will be enrolled as an ShebaMiles Welcome Member. When you first join the program, your default membership status is Welcome (entry level). From there, you can upgrade to Blue, Silver, Gold, and then Platinum.
Achievement of any ShebaMiles Tier depends on accrual of Status Miles or Qualifying Segments within a program calendar year- January 1st to December 31st.
As you fly more with Ethiopian Airlines and our partner airlines, and advance to the next ShebaMiles membership tier, you will enjoy greater privileges in accordance with your membership tier, such as bonus miles, extra baggage, priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, lounge access and much more.
Mileage Credit and Posting
Mileage credit from flights can happen instantly on the activity date (Flight date) or a later date post the completion of the actual flight activity. ‘Activity Date’ is the date when the ShebaMiles member performs the eligible activity and ‘Posting Date’ is the date on which the ShebaMiles miles for such activities are credited into the member’s account.
Your Miles will automatically be credited to your ShebaMiles account after your flight. If you travelled with Ethiopian, this can take up to 2 days.
There may be cases in which miles are not accrued after boarding even if membership number is registered in the booking. Please keep all necessary documents for retroactive registration until mileage accrual is confirmed.
Special Cases for Mileage Accrual
Upgrades and Downgrades:
- If seat is upgraded including Upgrade Awards, and the difference in Booking Class is not paid by the member, miles will be accrued based on the original (paid) booking class.
- If seat is upgraded to Business class with last minute upgrade surcharge payment, Business Class miles will be credited based on the accrual rate of ‘J’ Booking Class provided that the original economy class ticket was a normal revenue ticket. If the original economy class ticket was an award ticket issued against miles redemption, miles will not be credited both for the original award ticket and for the paid upgrade.
- If seat is upgraded to Business class with Plusgrade, miles will be accrued based on the original (paid) booking class.
- If a seat is downgraded, miles are accrued for the boarded class.
Ineligible Scenarios:
- Some booking classes are not eligible to earn miles. Check the earning miles calculator above for eligibility.
- Awards (award tickets and upgrade awards) are not eligible to earn any type of miles.
- Flight segments from awards (award tickets and upgrade awards) do not count for tier qualification.
Codeshare Flights:
A codeshare flight is a flight marketed by one airline and operated by another airline. That flight generally carries flight numbers from both airlines.
