Dungbeetle River Lodge is located in Colchester, near Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and serves as your entry point to the world-famous Addo Elephant National Park, situated only 4 km from the new southern gate. The lodge is also near some of the finest Eastern Cape game reserves.

Accommodation and Amenities
Accommodation is available in 6 up-market large safari type bedrooms, with old-world furnishings, subtly decorated to give you a classy colonial Africa feel, with all the luxuries expected of a luxury establishment. Each bedroom is en-suite and equipped with air-conditioning, a wall heater, a fan, honesty bar, and a safe. The lodge has double glazing on the windows.
The guest house has 7 up-market, large, safari style en-suite bedrooms, subtly decorated to give you the classic African decor feel, contrasting with the modern up-to-date bathrooms. Six double large rooms include a 6 bed cottage with self catering facilities, private jetties and a highly sought after family suite and family room.
Known for cleanliness, happy and helpful staff and an excellent breakfast served on a deck overlooking the beautiful Sundays River, this lodge diligently conforms to all the requirements expected from the cream of 4 star graded facilities.

Dining and Views
Your stay is inclusive of a scrumptious full farm breakfast that includes home-baked bread and fresh fruit juice. Breakfast on the terrace includes freshly baked bread, freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, spreads and egg dishes of your choice are offered.
The Sundays River flows at the foot of the guest house, offering sweeping river views from the lodge’s decks and a perfect backdrop to river activities such as safe swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, and river cruises. The lodge is located outside of Port Elizabeth in a small settlement. We were able to find 2 restaurants, one of which is within walking distance.
Guests can enjoy delicious breakfast with homemade jams and bread while overlooking the river and sand dunes from the deck.
Activities and Excursions
Situated by a nature reserve along a river, this rural property offers paddleboarding, fishing, and hiking trails. River activities like swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing and river cruises then the famous sand dunes opposite the lodge provide hiking, sand boarding and sand sledding.

The world renown Addo Elephant National Park is a mere 10 minutes away. Perfect location for Addo, with only a short drive to the Gate. We give advice on self-drive or you can book a tour in our professional safari vehicles with a well qualified guide.
Game drives of varying lengths start around 5 km from the southern entrance to the park. Tours can be booked on site. They also have tours in Addo Elephant Park, we ook one, brilliant experience.
We are often hosting cycle, e bike and motor cycle groups. We provide evening meals for groups and safari tours into the Addo Elephant National Park in our 22 seat vehicle and river activities.

Dungbeetle River Lodge is a modern lodge with a gentle reminder of our colonial past and a touch of African décor. The Lodge is an eco lodge with Solar Energy. Recycled water feeds our beautiful garden, a very active worm farm produces compost from kitchen waste (did you know how much our worms enjoy left over coffee!) and all the other recycled programs that our green environment requires.

Guests praise the friendly staff and highlight the abundant birdlife by the river. Amazing couple of nights. The rooms are comfortable, we had a great view of the river, and the breakfast was delightful with some local options to enjoy. Service was top class too, would definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

Location and Directions
On the N2 towards Grahamstown for about 45 km. Across the Sundays River. soon at the cross road turn right. Right at T junction, first left. 76 Aquavista Crescent. The lodge will be on the left hand side. Follow road directions.
