Paradise in name and reality, the wonderful Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa in Mauritius offers a large, family-friendly beach resort with a sporty emphasis. With three miles of perfect beach, a championship golf course, and a raft of sporting activities on offer, this is a high-end location for anyone interested in keeping healthy on holidays. It’s a sprawling place, virtually a village, so it never feels crowded, and there are plenty of quiet pockets to find moments of calm.
First Impressions
The check-in process is the first impression you get of a property, so it can make all the impact for the rest of your stay. At Beachcomber, guests are greeted with champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries! The staff at the front desk explain every detail regarding the hotel and are very friendly and welcoming. Guests might even get upgraded to the Full Board meal plan. Arriving after a long journey and receiving such a welcome is exactly what you need.
Luxurious Accommodations
After arriving in darkness, you can wake up in one of the hotel’s 280 generous rooms and open your windows directly onto the beach. All rooms are very spacious and well-decorated. The smallest room starts from 50m2. Those looking for extra glamour may opt for one of the four double-sized Beachfront Suites with their own private beach.
One might stay at the Tropical Beach Front room with a huge balcony overlooking palm trees and the ocean. While all aspects of the room are enjoyable, the huge terrace is definitely the highlight. The beach is also pretty close. Since the property is very big, there is a regular shuttle service between the rooms and the main area.
The Property
The property itself is really huge. It has a long sandy private beach which, although the hotel was almost fully booked, never felt crowded. The pool area is also very spacious and looks great. The hotel also has its own water sports center with paid and free activities to choose from. There are plenty of opportunities to get some entertainment during the day.

Included in the room rate are activities like catamaran, canoeing, sea bike, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boat tours. For those interested in golf, the hotel has a huge golf course and offers free beginner courses.
The resort is in the shade of the Le Morne Brabant mountain so trekking and horse riding are on offer, as are water-based excursions like catamaran trips and dolphin swimming. A frangipane garden around a pool dotted with Buddhist statues offers a wonderful spot to unwind.

Dining Experience
The dining options at Paradis Beachcomber are diverse. You have the options to book Breakfast only, Half, or Full Board. Drinks are extra. Le Brabant is the main restaurant and serves buffet-style Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. For Dinner, there is always a different buffet theme.
The other restaurants are 'A la Carte' and need to be reserved in advance since they only have a small number of tables. There are daily menus which are included in the Half/Full Board package and other items on the menu that cost extra. It's best to book a day in advance. Although only certain dishes are included in the price I'd definitely recommend booking at the 'A La Carte' restaurants for Lunch/Dinner since the atmosphere and experience is really great. You can also book the restaurants at the sister hotel Beachcomber Le Dinarobin which gives you a great choice of restaurants to choose from.
It’s a safe bet the restaurants are going to be good at any hotel once you stay at a certain calibre of property. That’s why it’s extra noticeable when they go the extra mile. The Blue Marlin restaurant was a welcome surprise. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout. Our waiter welcomed us by name and after showing us the wine list, went on to tell us about the special, alcohol-free drinks they had paired with our courses. We found this to be a genuinely nice touch, and the kind of extra mile high-end hotels must go to set themselves apart.

Restaurant Choices
- La Palma: This is an Italian restaurant directly located at the beach. It's open for Lunch and Dinner. For Lunch, they serve Pizza, Pasta, and Sandwiches. Dinner here is highly recommended since the atmosphere is really romantic.
- Blue Marlin: This was a favorite restaurant. They are also open for Breakfast and Dinner. For Breakfast, the choices are the same like at the main restaurant, but if you manage to get a table right at the beach you should go for it. During Lunch and Dinner, they mainly serve fish and seafood but have also choices of sandwiches and great salads.
- La Ravanne: If you want the ultimate fine dining experience, La Ravanne is your choice. The setting is very romantic, and the menu consists of Mauritian dishes which is a must-try.
Besides Crepe Hour in the afternoon and the evening live entertainment, you can spend a lot of time watching the sunset over the Indian Ocean and have an evening drink.
Golfing at Paradis Beachcomber
After a warm-up on the range, the golf course begins with a seemingly tight first tee due to the close proximity of trees. The course is dominated by the backdrop of Le Morne mountain, especially noted on the par 3, 6th hole. The run of holes from the 7th to the 9th is particularly enjoyable, featuring a dogleg right par 5, a tight drive on the 8th, and a stunning 9th with water running along the right.
The pace continues after a refuelling stop, with the 10th hole requiring a drive over water. The 12th has an ocean backdrop behind the green, while the 16th offers a risk-and-reward tee shot over the Indian Ocean to a peninsula green. The dogleg right 18th is played over water to another raised green surrounded by palm trees.
Exploring the Area
Make the most of the area’s natural beauty with a trip to Black River Gorge National Park to see the last of the ebony trees that once covered the island. You’ll soon find that rum is a big part of life here, so if that’s your thing, you might as well try the good stuff at La Rhumerie de Chamarel, a distillery nestled in a spectacular oasis.
Check-Out Experience
The check-out process is a sad part of the trip. If your flight is in the evening, you can enjoy the beach a little bit longer. After Check out, you may be offered a day room to change and shower before leaving. The concierge will also arrange your transfer to the airport. All in all, everything is really GREAT!
