Nestled within the heart of Mole National Park, Zaina Lodge offers a rare fusion of adventure and indulgence. As Ghana continues to rise as a compelling travel destination, it stands out as West Africa’s first luxury safari lodge. Zaina Lodge offers more than just a place to sleep-it delivers a luxury safari experience infused with Ghanaian warmth, culture, and sustainability.
Location and Accessibility
Zaina Lodge is perched on a ridge inside Mole National Park in the Savannah Region of Northern Ghana. This prime location offers sweeping views of the savanna and easy access to wildlife sightings. From the deck or your private room, you may spot elephants bathing or antelopes grazing.
Travelling to Zaina Lodge is part of the adventure. Most visitors fly into Tamale Airport, which is about a 2.5-hour drive from the lodge. Road transfers can be arranged directly through the lodge or by tour operators.
Zaina Lodge is easy to reach by car from Wa, a friendly town that is well connected to Ghana’s main road system. If you prefer to fly, you can touch down at Tamale International Airport, then enjoy a scenic two-hour drive. There are also private transfer services from Accra, about a six-hour journey for those who prefer that route.
Accommodation and Amenities
The endearing lodge features spacious tented chalets that blend traditional safari design with modern comforts. Zaina Lodge has 13 tents and features an outdoor pool.

Each suite includes a king-sized bed, air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, and a private balcony overlooking the bush. The lodge boasts an infinity pool, a well-stocked bar, and a restaurant serving both local and international cuisine. Guests can unwind with a book in the on-site library.
Zaina Lodge provides tents equipped with a mini bar, plus all the essentials to ensure a comfortable stay.
Chalet Interior
The first thing I noticed about the ensuite interior of the Zaina Lodge chalets is how spacious the tent is. There was also a thoughtful welcome note included which added a personal touch to my stay. The in-tent open shower was one of my favorite touches. The pebble-framed wall covering imitates a cave-like structure. The hot water worked great, and the pressure was appreciated.
I did note that there are no lights on the private balconies at night. When you are walking from your room to the dining area, it is pitch black, which was concerning to me. A small lantern was placed beside my door, but it wasn’t helpful. Overall, I was very impressed with the interior of the Zaina lodge chalet. It reminded me of one of my recent stays at the Shai Hills Glamping Tent.

Guests can enjoy thrilling game drives twice daily-early morning and late afternoon-led by experienced guides. The facility’s safari experience includes up-close encounters with elephants, antelopes, warthogs, and an array of bird species. For the more adventurous, walking safaris offer a chance to track animals on foot and immerse yourself in the rhythms of the savanna.
Guests at Zaina Lodge embark on mobile safaris that cruise the park in custom-built vehicles. These rides are more than a thrill; they’re a front-row seat to wildlife living on its trusty schedule. Prefer to lace up your hiking boots? Guided walking safaris bring you up close to the landscape. Under the watchful eye of trained guides-whose expertise runs deep-you can silently watch graceful elephants and other residents of the park.
The safaris are much more than photo ops. Each adventure is a mini-lecture on the Mole ecosystem. Guides point out dazzling plant life, explain animal behaviours, and show how each species-big and small-plays its role in the landscape. You won’t just see the bush, you’ll read its living story. Zaina Lodge wants your safari to feel both elegant and genuine, and every moment reflects that promise.
Dining Experience
At Zaina Lodge, every meal is an experience. The open-air restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring Ghanaian delicacies and international favourites. Meals are served with scenic views and warm hospitality from staff who are passionate about making your stay memorable.
Zaina Lodge only serves 4-course meals with a dessert at their facility for lunch and dinner. The first course is soup with bread rolls. Following the first course comes a salad-based dish. The third course is the main dish; for this course, the chef gives two options.

Each day, the chefs harvest produce from their organic gardens to create fresh, flavorful dishes inspired by northern Ghanaian recipes and global culinary trends. Guests feast on time-honoured stews and exciting new creations, knowing each bite supports local farmers and safe, sustainable growing methods.
Dining Options
- Lunch: Zaina Lodge serves 4-course meals with a dessert at their facility for lunch.
- Dinner: Zaina Lodge serves 4-course meals with a dessert at their facility for dinner.
- Breakfast: Breakfast the following morning consisted of tea, water, scrambled eggs, toast, the option of sausage (I skipped out on), and a delicious breakfast muffin with a Nutella-like chocolate filling.
Commitment to Sustainability
What sets Zaina Lodge apart is its commitment to sustainable tourism and authentic experiences. The lodge utilises solar energy, supports local communities, and employs eco-friendly waste management practices. Its blend of comfort, conservation, and culture makes it the best safari lodge in Ghana.
Wildlife and the environment are Zaina Lodge’s first commitments. Guided by this devotion, the lodge teams with community-driven preservation projects to steer eco-initiatives. Active support keeps local rangers on the route trails, funds building new watering holes, and replants forest edges with native saplings.
Activities at Zaina Lodge
Along with the cost comes a 2-hour day safari available two times a day: 6:30 am and 9:30 am. A night safari starts at 6:00 pm and allows you to see nocturnal animals at the Mole National Park, but it comes at an extra cost.
The Mognori Eco Village is a local attraction that allows guests to embark on a canoe safari and tour a local village community in the Mole area. A staff member told me that it is possible to arrange a visit to the site. I went on my own the morning before arriving and can recommend a tour guide for you! I had a great time at the Mognori Eco Village and can recommend the canoe safari!
Aside from those activities, nothing else is offered at Zaina Lodge as entertainment for guests to do. I was told that there is usually a spa running, but due to COVID, it was not in service. I found this interesting, seeing as how I wasn’t asked to provide COVID test results for my stay, and social distancing was not enforced among guests with seating. Aside from the pool, eating, and enjoying the company of your party, don’t expect many things to do at Zaina Lodge.
Essential Information for Visitors
Pack light, breathable clothing suitable for both day and evening temperatures. Don’t forget insect repellent, sunscreen, binoculars, and a good camera. It’s advisable to travel with malaria prophylaxis and stay hydrated.
