Over 21 million people in Uganda are living without basic access to clean drinking water. Ugandan Water Project Inc has made a significant impact in addressing the water crisis in Uganda by funding, implementing, and advocating for vital water sanitation and hygiene projects throughout the country. This problem is extremely important because it involves public health and welfare.

Infrastructure Development and Water Filter Distribution
By focusing on infrastructure development, the organization has facilitated the construction of rainwater collection systems, borehole rehabilitation, new borehole drilling, mechanized boreholes, and the provision of water filters. TASC has financed the distribution of 30,000 Purifaaya ceramic water filters produced by SPOUTS of Water in Uganda to households in the western parts of the country.
SPOUTS have been manufacturing and distributing ceramic water filters since 2012 which sit in a 20 litre plastic container that is able to provide for households of up to 8 people. It ensures up to 5 years of safe drinking water with the ability to simply replace the filters. Purifaaya water filters have been used in 5 registered Gold Standard projects since 2017. SPOUTS has a 1-star water filter rating from the World Health Organisation for preventing bacterial water borne diseases, and further certification from the relevant water authorities in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Improving Water Pump Technology
The previous pump design has some flaws, which include the gaskets inside wearing off very frequently. Every time the water pump stops working no water is generated, which means people cannot access water. This increases costs as repairing that pump requires both financial resources and time. The main goal of this project is to improve the current design and develop an efficient, long-lasting pump that can supply water to people in need generously. To achieve this goal, an accelerated life testing machine is made to analyze newly developed gaskets. These gaskets will then be used in the field to increase pump efficiency and uptime.
Collaboration and Resource Mobilization
Through collaboration with local partner organizations, Ugandan Water Project Inc mobilizes resources raised from a diverse array of sources-private donors, businesses, schools, churches, foundations, and charitable entities-to deliver clean drinking water to communities in need. This direct investment in water infrastructure not only alleviates immediate water insecurity but also promotes the establishment of sustainable enterprises to maintain access to clean water in the long term.
Advocacy and Long-Term Solutions
Moreover, the organization's advocacy efforts are aimed at influencing national systems to ensure that the progress made in water accessibility becomes permanent, ultimately working towards the goal of ending Uganda's water crisis once and for all.
The River is a community of monthly supporters who share one passion: seeing people in Uganda experience the freedom that only clean water can bring.
