Uganda Christian University (UCU) is a private, church-founded university administered by the Church of Uganda. It stands as a beacon of higher education in Uganda, offering a wide array of academic programs and opportunities for students from across the region and beyond.
Historical Overview
Uganda Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono. International partnerships were part of the College's missionary history. The Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s, the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the higher education - not only of clergy but of other professionals as well. Uganda Christian University was established in 1997. In 2004, the Government of Uganda granted a charter to Uganda Christian University - the highest level of national accreditation.
The first vice chancellor, Stephen Noll, was installed in 2000. He helped UCU to receive a government charter in 2004, the first of its kind in Uganda. John Senyonyi, an evangelist and mathematician, is the UCU's second vice chancellor. He joined UCU as a chaplain in 2001 and rose to become the deputy vice chancellor for finance and administration.
While the majority of faculty and students are Ugandan, UCU has attracted students from other African Great Lakes countries and a number of expatriate staff from North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

- Main Campus: Located in Mukono.
- Bishop Barham University College: Located in Kabale, approximately 420 kilometres (261 mi), by road, south-west of Kampala, with about 1,500 students.
- UCU Mbale Campus: Located in Mbale.
- UCU Arua Campus: Located in Arua.
- UCU Kagando University College (UCU KUC): Located in Kagando, Kasese.
Academic Programs and Courses
UCU conducts scientific activity in several areas. Short courses for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) are now available for prospective students in 2025 at the Department of Computing and Technology of Uganda Christian University.

On 26 February 2018, the Uganda National Council for Higher Education gave the university a letter of accreditation for three new medical courses:

- Bachelor of Dental Surgery
- Bachelor of Public Health

Financial Information
The academic calendar at UCU is divided into trimesters, however, tuition fees are calculated per year. Tuition fees here are different for locals and foreigners.
