Set with ecological astuteness and modern design on the lush banks of the mighty Zambezi River near the natural masterpiece of Victoria Falls, Thorntree River Lodge is a superb base from which to explore the Falls and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Thorntree River Lodge is situated along the picturesque banks of Zambia’s Zambezi River, nestled within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. This setting seamlessly merges the tranquil ambiance of the Zambezi with the awe-inspiring majesty of Victoria Falls.
The Zambezi is very often referred to as the mighty Zambezi, for good reason. Thorntree was built to celebrate the Zambezi’s mightiness. Its eight beautifully furnished twin rooms and two family units (with four beds apiece) look out at the river (as do the lodge’s gym and spa and airy dining area, which includes an extensively and thoughtfully stocked wine cellar). Each suite at Thorntree River Lodge is complete with a private plunge pool, a viewing deck, a luxurious bathtub, an outdoor and indoor shower, and a fully stocked bar cart.
The communal riverside deck features a sunken boma area, an infinity pool, and wooden decks that float on the river, creating a delightful sense of being on a lovely little boat. The communal deck on the Zambezi’s edge is home to the Acacia firepit and a stunning infinity pool. Drawing architectural inspiration from local cultures and contemporary influences, Thorntree River Lodge’s shared areas are fluid hubs of relaxation. The lounge flows into the elegant dining room, both areas enjoying incredible panoramas of the river.
But here we’ll quote an old Micato friend, who said that “Victoria Falls is billed as one of the world’s greatest waterfalls, but, as a matter of fact, it’s one of the world’s greatest anythings.” We’d quibble just a bit with our friend. The Falls aren’t one of the world’s greatest waterfalls, they are the most colossal, the grandest, the unquestionably mightiest falls on the planet. In addition to those awestriking encounters with the cataract, Thorntree is a great base for visits to the national park named for the falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders).
Home to a fiercely protected white rhino population, the park offers a wonderfully rich mini-safari, with common sightings of elephants, lions, Angolan giraffes, bouldery Cape buffalo, a nice cast of springy ungulates, and, by the riverbanks, hippos galumphing aplenty. Thorntree River Lodge offers a serene base from which to enjoy a number of safari activities. Embark on game drives, river cruises, cultural visits, fishing expeditions, canoeing trips, and rhino tracking walks. Enjoy private excursions to both the Zambian and the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls.

Guest Experiences
Many guests have shared their positive experiences at Thorntree River Lodge.
One guest stated, "I’m so glad we chose Thorntree for our stay close to Victoria Falls! I cannot say enough about the people that work here. Warm, friendly, welcoming - everyone we met made us feel special. Activities included seeing the falls from both sides, a sunset cruise, lunch cruise, rhino trek, and a visit to a local village. The camp location, our accommodation, the ambience created, the quality of food and the impeccable standard of service we received at Thorntree throughout was absolutely first class. It was perfect from beginning to end and if anything, we were sorry to leave and could have easily stayed longer. Wonderful stay."
Another guest stated, "As another guest stated, this is much more than luxury, it’s luxurious. Anything you could desire was made available. Food was excellent and they even had a special Zambian food night. They also offered sunset cruises on the Zambezi river, which was sublime. Some wildlife would stroll through the grounds. Bernadette did a masterful job explaining and showing us the work of the ABC Foundation."
