The closure of Rite Aid stores has a significant impact on the communities they serve. In Elizabeth Borough, the Rite Aid at 300 Market St. has also closed. âWe donât like to see staple businesses leave our business district,â Johnson said. âWe are open to supporting any new business that comes in.
While customersâ pharmacy files have largely been transferred â mostly to Giant Eagle locations â whatâs left behind are prime commercial properties now sitting empty. The Monongahela location at 446 W. Main St. has also closed. âWeâre trying very hard to revitalize this area down here,â Manning said.

Efforts to Revitalize Affected Areas
Local officials are actively seeking new businesses to fill the void left by Rite Aid. âI was in touch with the real estate management company who is taking care of the listing and they told me they have a few leads,â Craighead said. âI personally have reached out to Chick-fil-A and Texas Roadhouse, among others, to share available property. I sent the Rite Aid property to Chick-fil-A again,â he said.
Another building at 523 McKean Ave. Itâs a perfect location, has built-in parking and is in the heart of our business district. Across the street from the former Rite Aid, a condemned structure next to the Market House was recently torn down.

The closure of these Rite Aid stores raises questions about the future of pharmacy services in these communities. Residents may need to travel further to access medications and healthcare products. Itâs not just for Charleroi â itâs all of these communities around here.
The closures are part of our network reconfiguration, the largest ever in company history, with the purpose of modernizing our facilities and increasing efficiency,â said UPS spokesperson Karen Tomaszewski Hill.
