Early Life and Education

Godfrey was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Nigerian parents who immigrated to the United States to escape the Nigerian Civil War. His family is of Igbo descent, and he is the nephew of Nigerian musician Sonny Okosun. Shortly after his birth, the family relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where Godfrey was raised.

After high school, Godfrey received an academic scholarship to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he majored in psychology. During his time at the university, he was a member of the varsity football team.
