Positions on International Issues
Council members differ starkly in their national positions on Western Sahara. The US, the penholder on Western Sahara, recognised Morocco’s sovereignty over the region in December 2020 during the first administration of President Donald Trump and has committed to opening a consulate in the disputed territory.
