  • Essaouira: Wins for culture and beach vibes, offering a charming whitewashed medina, fresh seafood, and an artistic atmosphere.
  • Agadir: Ideal for families and sunshine, boasting over 300 days of sunshine and a 10km sandy beach.
  • Legzira: Famous for its dramatic Instagram-worthy scenery, though one arch collapsed in 2016, the remaining views are still stunning.
  • Saidia: Known for calm Mediterranean waters and Blue Flag certification, offering a more Spanish feel.

Important Considerations:

  • Wind: Be prepared for constant wind, especially on the Atlantic coast. Bring a windbreaker even in summer.
  • Agadir: The city was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so it has a modern feel.
  • Taghazout: Has developed rapidly but still retains a chill surfer essence.
  • Legzira: No facilities on the beach, so bring water and snacks.
  • Saidia: Limited cultural attractions and can be empty outside of summer.

Accommodation Options

Morocco's beaches aren't the Caribbean - they're uniquely Moroccan. We’ve curated a collection of accommodation which showcases the very best of Morocco, and is as distinct as the country itself.

In Marrakech and Fes, we recommend traditional riad-style hotels set within the Medina walls, resplendent with gleaming colorful tiles, hand carved cedar woodwork, and brick lined archways. These luxury Morocco hotels come with warm, attentive service and rooftop terraces perfect for sundowners.

In the desert and mountains, unique accommodations reign. Think luxury canvas tents surrounded by sand dunes, floors covered with Berber rugs and lantern lit walkways where you can dine under a starry sky. The age-old Kasbah style properties in the Atlas Mountains may be traditionally made from mud and brick, but these world-class luxury hotels are decorated richly and have stunning, landscaped gardens that peer into the red clay and green treed valley below. Rooms here come with expansive bathrooms and dressing areas, as well as private balconies or gardens for the ground-floor suites, each facing the Atlas Mountains.

Here's a glimpse at some exceptional hotels:

Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech

The first Moroccan property from the Asian powerhouse brand may actually complicate your time in Marrakech. Spread like a palm-studded desert oasis of glistening pools and lakes, the resorts’ 16 villas may be the hardest place to leave in the Red City. Large wood gates open onto massive outdoor patios with plush white sofas, a swimming pool and more loungers than you can nap or tan on over the course of a four-day escape (and inside you’ll find hammams built into the showers, Berber rugs, and a king-size bed with a jacuzzi at its foot). Plus there’s the wraparound terrace which is an absolute must hit at cocktail hour; a banging new Hakkasan restaurant with DJ that serves late night; and an Andalucian-style spa with an Arabian massage that’ll leave you wanting to do nothing but flop back onto one of those pool side loungers-whiling away the afternoon, waiting for the sun to slip behind the visible Atlas mountains and turn the sky the same color as the city itself.

Kasbah Tamadot

All kasbahs are a kind of oasis of calm behind fortified walls, and Kasbah Tamadot is one of the very finest in Morocco. Its name means “soft breeze” in the local Berber language, evoking the reprieve it offers in the shadow of the Atlas Mountains. First built over a century ago as a home for a local governor, it became part of the Virgin Limited Edition Collection of lodges and resorts in 2005. Now reopening after substantial damage from the 2023 earthquake, Tamadot is a lavish yet quirky Amazigh castle with exquisite carved doors and intimate courtyards, secret passageways, and terraces of reflecting pools strewn with rose petals. It is furnished with the extraordinary collections of the previous owner, a Venetian antiquarian named Luciano Tempo, which were included when Richard Branson purchased the place. Huge bronze and wooden chests that might have carried Barbarossa’s loot stand in corners. In rambling gardens, pathways meander beneath trellises of jasmine while espaliered apple trees frame the cabanas around the swimming pool. In addition to atmospheric rooms in the old kasbah, new accommodations offer a step-up in luxury with 10 glamorous Berber tents in the gardens and six luxurious riads, which offer three-bedroom suites and private pools.
