Moroccan Oil Product Reviews: A Deep Dive into Haircare

Moroccan Oil has become a prominent name in the haircare industry, lauded for its use of argan oil and its ability to transform hair. This article delves into a comprehensive review of various Moroccan Oil products, examining their effectiveness, ingredients, and overall value.

The Allure of Argan Oil

Argan oil is a key ingredient often included in luxury haircare products. This oil is rich in vitamin E, carotenes, moisturizing squalene, and fatty acids.

The deep roots and small leaves of the argan tree allow it to resist arid winds and water loss, resulting in a nut with a uniquely rich oil profile.

Moroccanoil Treatment Oil: The Iconic Product

Moroccanoil Treatment is the product that pioneered oil-infused hair care and created the worldwide buzz on argan oil. It can be used as a conditioning, styling, and finishing tool.

This multitasking hair oil is infused with argan oil to smooth frizz, detangle, condition, and boost shine by up to 118%. Apply a small amount to clean, towel-dried hair, from mid-length to ends and blow-dry or let dry naturally.

Moroccanoil Treatment’s groundbreaking, nourishing formula contains argan oil in a perfect balance with other high-performance ingredients to create an instantly absorbable, non-greasy formula that leaves hair smooth, conditioned, and manageable. It is an essential foundation for all hair types that can be used for styling and/or as a shine-boosting finishing touch.

Ingredients: CYCLOMETHICONE, DIMETHICONE, ARGANIA SPINOSA (ARGAN) KERNEL OIL, PARFUM/FRAGRANCE, LINUM USITATISSIMUM (LINSEED) SEED EXTRACT, CI 26100 (RED 17), CI 47000 (YELLOW 11).

There is also a Moroccanoil Treatment Light which was created for those with fine and light-colored (including white or gray) hair.

However, it also contains silicones (cyclomethicone and dimethicone), which are cheaper than argan oil. Indeed, two silicones are listed first in the ingredient list, leading me to believe that this product contains more silicones than oils. The viscosity is also more silicone-like than oil-like.

It also contains fragrance and smells slightly like melted wax mixed with your typical hair salon fragrance. It helps tame frizziness but it also feels a bit heavy/oily if you accidentally apply too much.

Shampoo and Conditioner: Hydration and Care

MoroccanOil hydrating shampoo however makes it my hair oily and has a hazardous chemical called Phenoxyethanol, as well as the other 7 low risk allergens.

The Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner smell amazing and come in aesthetically pleasing packaging, but unfortunately, the performance was underwhelming. The shampoo didn’t provide the level of hydration I hoped for, and the conditioner lacked the slip and moisture my hair craves. At this price point, there are far better options for dry or curly hair that truly deliver on hydration and nourishment.

The bottles are sleek and sturdy, but they use a hard plastic material that can make it difficult to squeeze out product-especially as you near the bottom.

Shampoo: The texture of the shampoo is creamy yet slightly runny. While it cleanses without feeling overly stripping, it also doesn’t provide much hydration.

Conditioner: The conditioner has a thicker, creamier consistency, which I expected would provide a deeply hydrating experience. It felt like it sat on top of my hair rather than penetrating the strands. There was little to no slip, making detangling a struggle. My hair felt underwhelmed and lacked the bounce and hydration I typically get from richer conditioners like those from SheaMoisture or Carol’s Daughter.

Styling Products: Creams and Sprays

The spray version is more effective towards managing frizz in a humid climate.

I’m a big fan of their heat protectants, both the aerosol and the spray version.

The combination of the Hydrating Styling Cream and Moroccanoil Treatment has transformed my hair: soft, disciplined, and incredibly shiny. The cream, light and infused with argan oil, tames frizz and hydrates without weighing down, while the treatment adds shine and protects against thermal damage. Together, they offer an impeccable style and visibly healthier hair. An irreplaceable duo in my routine!

Dry Shampoo: A Convenient Solution

Daily hair washings were the norm until I started using this Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for dark tones.

This dry shampoo contains two powerhouse ingredients to combat build up and odor. First is rice starch, a natural absorbent that draws out oil. And second, argan oil which is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants to nourish hair.

I divide my hair into 4 sections, hold the aerosol bottle 6 inches away from my head and lightly spray each section. I wait a few minutes for it to dry and then rub my fingers through my hair as if I was actually using regular shampoo. Then I brush and style as normal.

After using this dry shampoo my hair feels smooth and soft. Not dry, crunchy, or heavy with product.

While I wish I could tell you it lasts all day (which is impossible because your hair is going to add more oil naturally as the day carries on), it lasts better and longer than other dry shampoos I tried.

If Moroccoanoil made candles out of this dry shampoo fragrance I would buy them by the dozen.

Don’t worry blondies, Moroccanoil has a dry shampoo for light tones too.
