Fr. Chad Ripperger: Biography of an Exorcist and Theologian

Fr. Chad Alec Ripperger, born on October 11, 1964, is an American Catholic priest and exorcist known for his expertise in spiritual warfare, theology, and philosophy. He is the founder of the Doloran Fathers, also known as the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother, based in the Archdiocese of Denver.

Early Life and Education

Fr. Chad Ripperger was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. He pursued higher education with dedication, earning two bachelor's degrees from the University of San Francisco: one in Theology and another in Philosophy. He furthered his studies by completing a Master’s in Philosophy at the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. Subsequently, he attended seminary and earned a Master’s in Theology at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. Later, after joining the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, he was sent to Rome and completed his Doctorate in Philosophy at the University of the Holy Cross.

Ordination and Assignments

He was ordained a Catholic priest on June 7, 1997, by Edward Slattery for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Upon ordination, he spent a year in a parish in Omaha, Nebraska and then was assigned to St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, Nebraska, the diocesan seminary for the Diocese of Lincoln, NE. After teaching 4 years at the diocesan seminary, he taught for 6 years at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton NE, which is the main seminary for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the United States. He spent 3 years as a pastor in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Ministry and Exorcism

In the early 2010s, Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa asked Ripperger to consider training exorcists for the diocese; from that, an idea developed to begin a society of exorcists. He now has his own society, the Doloran Fathers, also known as the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother, which is located in the archdiocese of Denver. Fr. Ripperger is a spiritual father and mentor to OSMM.

Publications

Fr. Ripperger's books (published by Sensus Traditionis) and lectures give a no-nonsense approach to the Faith, which many of the faithful see as a breath of fresh air. Ripperger where he examines and seeks to improve the state of the Catholic traditionalist movement, which he believes currently has a lot of problems that are hindering its growth.
