Egypt has a rich history in soccer, marked by numerous matches and league performances. This article delves into various aspects of Egyptian soccer, including match results, performance metrics, and future projections.
Match Results and Analysis
Here's an overview of some matches involving Egyptian teams:
- (H) vs Ghazl El M.
- (A) at Ceramica C.
- (H) vs A.
- (A) at A.
These matches represent a portion of the extensive history of Egyptian soccer, showcasing both home (H) and away (A) games against various opponents such as Ghazl El Mahallah (Ghazl El M.) and Ceramica Cleopatra (Ceramica C.).
Performance Metrics: Points Performance Index vs. Performance Rating
Understanding team performance involves several metrics. Two key indicators are the Points Performance Index (PPI) and the Performance Rating.
The Points Performance Index (PPI) is based on Points Per Game. Its goal is to measure the team's capacity to pick up points in the league table. This is a points-centric indicator.

The Performance Rating is based on what we call Performance Points (pPts). Unlike typical Points, where a draw is rewarded at one third of a win, Performance Points are calculated so as to value a draw as half a win.
The typical 3-1-0 point system provides a clear incentive for teams to aim for the win.
Projected Points and Opponent Analysis
Analyzing opponents' performance is crucial for projecting future points. The Points Per Game (PPG) of opponents, both past and future, plays a significant role.
For each team, the opponents' PPG values are calculated based on the current PPG of each of the team's opponents in the league's regular season, taking into account whether the opponent:
- has been played at home or away (played opponents' PPG)
- or will be played at home or away (remaining opponents' PPG).
For example, if a team has the following 4 matches left to play in the regular season:

- Match #1 to be played at home against Opponent A
- Match #2 to be played away against Opponent B
- Match #3 to be played at home against Opponent C
- Match #4 to be played away against Opponent D
The value calculated for the remaining opponents' PPG in that example will be the average of the away PPG of Opponent A, the home PPG of Opponent B, the away PPG of Opponent C, and the home PPG of Opponent D.
The objective is to evaluate PPG of previous and remaining opponents based on whether such opponents were faced (or will be faced) at home or away, as there may be a significant difference between a given opponent's results achieved in their home matches and those achieved in away matches.
Please note that these calculations are based on the data that we currently have access to. For some leagues, not all remaining matches are known at any given time.

Key Metrics and Formulas
Several metrics are used to project points, including Games Played (GP), Points (Pts), Points Per Game (PPG), and more. Here's how they are calculated:
This table shows the current Points Per Game for each team, the Points Per Game of the opponents they have already played against, and the Points Per Game (PPG) of the opponents they have yet to play against.

A Ratio below 1 indicates that the team has played a combined opposition that has a PPG that is lower than the combined PPG of the future oppositions.
A Ratio above 1 indicates that the team has played a combined opposition that has a PPG that is higher than the combined PPG of the future oppositions.
We calculate the Projected PPG for the team by multiplying the team's existing PPG with that Ratio value.
We then multiply that Projected PPG (pPPG) value with the number of remaining games that the team still has to play, and the result is called the Projected Points (pPts)
The value in the last column is the combined points value, calculated by adding the number of existing points to the number of Projected Points.
For this table:
- GP: Games Played
- Pts: Points
- PPG: Points Per Game (Team PPG)
- PLA: PPG of opponents played
- REM: PPG of opponents remaining
- Ratio: PPG of opponents played / PPG of opponents remaining
- pPPG: Projected PPG (Team PPG x Ratio), up to a limit of 3
- GR: Games Remaining (number of matches remaining to be played by the team)
- pPts: Projected Points (GR x pPPG)
- Combined: Pts + pPts
The formula can be summarized as:
Projected Points = Team current PPG x (played opponents PPG / remaining opponents PPG) x number of remaining matches
Or if we use the column headers of the above table, the formula would translate to:
Projected Points = PPG x (PLA / REM) x GR
Note: Projected points are projections, not predictions. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
Note #2: Please note that these calculations are based on the data that we currently have access to. The number of projected points is partly based on the number of remaining matches listed in the GR (Games Remaining) column.
