Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa Mauritius: A Detailed Review

If you’re yearning for a true escape, consider a hotel without a conventional address - no number, no street name, not even a postal code. Situated on a tiny tropical island in the Indian Ocean, lined with white sand beaches and lush palm trees, the Dinarobin Beachcomber on Mauritius’s Le Morne peninsula offers exactly that.

Mauritius is paradise - a small island sheltered by barriers of coral reefs in the Indian Ocean, creating crystal-clear lagoons whose only competition are the perfect white sand beaches and azure sea.

The hotel’s name was derived from Dina Harobi, the name Arab seafarers coined for Mauritius Island. So, later the name supposedly evolved into Dina Robin. Located on the beach, the resort, which is set in a spacious tropical garden filled with exotic flowers, occupies a vast swath of coastline.

The Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is located 70 km (1h15min) from the Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam International Airport and offers a few transportation options.

Here’s an in-depth look at what makes the Dinarobin Beachcomber a standout destination.

Location and Setting

That location, of course, is exactly what you’ve got at the Dinarobin Beachcomber, an all-suite, colonial style resort on Mauritius’s Le Morne peninsula. Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is set at the foot of the 556-meter high Le Morne Brabant mountain surrounded by palm trees in 20 acres of tropical gardens. Located on the most scenic shoreline in Mauritius with the spectacular Le Morne mountain acting as a dramatic backdrop.

Together with the neighboring Beachcomber Paradis Hotel, the Beachcomber Dinarobin, situated at the foot of Mont Brabant - the landmark in the southwestern part of the island - sets the tone for hotel row on the sand beach at Le Morne.

On a lesser tropical island the setting would probably be enough, but this is Mauritius, and the competition among luxury hotels is full-starch stiff.

The grounds are so expansive that every 15 minutes an electrocart glides by, whisking hotel guests from reception or the restaurants to their lodgings.

Accommodations

At the Dinarobin, you can enjoy the postcard-perfect beaches up close under the shade of a straw parasol, or from a not-too-distant distance in your suite. All rooms, starting with the entry-level junior suite, face the water and come with covered balconies or terraces, so you can gaze at the water until it inevitably calls you in. More than 150 of these elegant suites are divided among the handsome bungalows arranged in a semi-circle.

The suites are appointed in colonial style, with a noble design in beige and dark precious wood tones, just the way I like it. The bedroom is huge - naturally.

Opt for a beachfront suite for unobstructed views and step-out access to the sand. The senior suites are designed to feel like a private apartment. They include a master bedroom, a large terrace with an overhanging straw roof and rattan furniture, a lounge area and an enormous bathroom that has a tub from which you can watch palm trees sway on the other side of a bay window.

The rooms at Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa offer a marble bathroom and all the essentials for an enjoyable stay. Each provides a private bathroom with slippers, bathrobes and a hair dryer.

The exclusive resort has 172 suites, four restaurants, a bar, and six swimming pools. The suites are situated in double story houses in six crescent-shaped units of which five have their own pool. Crescents 2-6 have a pool except the crescent number 1, however, it is nearby to the main pool.

They have Zen Suites- for adults only which are located in the crescent 6 area with a private pool and beach and are perfect for honeymooners and couples.

Dining

Dinarobin Beachcomber Resort in Mauritius

The result: four restaurants, including one where you can wear dress shoes if you like, and another where you can sink your toes into the sand.

The main restaurant offers a well-rounded all-day buffet. For a change in the evening, we occasionally switch to Italian or the Japanese ‘Umami.’ Then, we also have the restaurants in the neighboring Beachcomber Paradise to choose from. You could easily spend an entire week here without having to eat twice in the same restaurant.

That said, you will need reservations for the à la carte restaurants, because they get fully booked very quickly.

On-site dining options include L’Harmonie, which is a convenient spot to enjoy a meal.

With the neighboring Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, at 5 minutes, the guests also have access to the restaurants and facilities of Beachcomber Paradis.

We booked for half board (breakfast & dinner included), but since we avail the honeymoon package, we were upgraded to full board (breakfast, lunch & dinner).

In terms of dining, we had a full board package, we dined at six restaurants out of eight both Dinarobin & Paradis. Please note that for the dinner, you must have a booking through at hotel concierge except for the buffet restaurants. Evening dress code for men, long pants/trousers, and closed shoes are a must. Most of the time, we ate at the Paradis Resort, they have better options for the restaurants compared to Dinarobin Resort.

Activities and Amenities

There are a range of amenities available to those staying at the hotel, including swimming pool, Turkish steam bath and car hire.

Along with their nearby sister hotel on the Morne, they’ve got their own eighteen-hole golf course, the aptly named Paradis. Put a little extra power behind your stroke and you might end up wading toward your ball in the turquoise-blue water of the Indian Ocean, on soft white sand, beneath the shade of a stand of palm trees - not exactly the worst punishment for missing the green.

The golf course here is straight out of paradise, too! It has to be… with that name! The best way to get to it is by hotel shuttle. The course is beautifully laid out along the coastline beside a spectacular bay. However, expect fairways that are often quite narrow and lots of water obstacles!

Situated as it is on a small peninsula, the course has plenty of natural wet hazards. And, what’s more, they are concentrated at the end of a round, when fatigue takes an increasing toll. Almost done! You can thank the international golf legend Tony Johnstone for the 5,924 meter long, 18-hole par 72 course.

The non-golfer who nevertheless likes to stay active first has the agony of choice: besides snorkeling, water skiing, kite or wind surfing over kayak, on offer are also non-watersports, specifically tennis, ping pong, badminton or yoga.

As rest and rejuvenation are what a stay at Dinarobin is all about, make sure you spend as much time as possible at the spa, tucked-away in gorgeous gardens at the foot of Morne Mountain, symbolising strength and balance. For the wellness aspirants among you, we should mention that there is also a spacious spa with sauna, hammam and more.

With the neighboring Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, at 5 minutes, the guests also have access to the golf course, tennis courts, a kitesurfing school, and extensive water sports activities.

The main pool is gigantic with a stunning view of the ocean and the mountain.
