In Dawson's Creek, Chad Michael Murray played the role of Charlie Todd, a character that left a significant mark on the show's fifth season. Let's delve into the details of Charlie's character and his relationships within the series.

Charlie Todd: The Womanizer

Charlie Todd is a recurring character in Season 5 of Dawson's Creek. Charlie is a womanizer who dates both Jen and Joey, the former, he is two-timing with a character named Nora. They have a mostly physical relationship, which Charlie isn't entirely committed to. He's the type of guy to know what to say, but when it comes to actually meaning what he says? He's about as genuine as I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

Relationship with Jen

Jen and Charlie initially met at a college party, where he approached her. Jen, seeing through his act, called him out. Not long after, he managed to convince her otherwise. A week into their relationship, she got him to open up more so that they could get to know each other, which somewhat worked. Their relationship didn't last long, however, as he ended up not being completely committed to the relationship, claiming that they never had that talk, when in reality, he had been two-timing her with Nora.

During his relationship with Jen, he was also actively pursuing Nora, which was later found out by Nora when she saw Jen come over while she was hanging out with Charlie in his dorm. After confronting him and locking him out of his dorm room naked, the two ended up getting along, even going as far as becoming friends. Though, their friendship is only very briefly expanded on.

Upon meeting Nora, the two girls tricked him, which led to him being locked out of his dorm room naked. She later found out that Nora was getting love letters from him in an attempt to win her back. Despite acting fine, she later cried to Dawson, thinking that there must be something wrong with her that led to Charlie choosing Nora over her. In a later episode, he clarifies that him and Nora aren't seeing each other and also apologizes, returning a shirt she had left behind.

Awhile after both Nora and Jen ended things with Charlie, she went to visit Jen at the radio station. While in conversation, she brought up the fact that Charlie had been sending her love letters and she was starting to daydream about him, believing that maybe he really has changed. Jen, however, says that she hasn't been getting letters. Nora apologizes for bringing it up, and the two move on from the topic.

Relationship with Joey

Joey and Charlie met in a bar, and he continued to make eye contact with Joey whilst performing. After the performance, he approached her and attempted to flirt, which failed as Joey revealed that she knew who he was, giving him the nickname of "Charlie, womanizer from Boston Bay". Once he heard this, he recognized her as the smart girl from Worthington. She then got up and walked away, but he continued to try and convince her to give him a chance.

After many attempts, and him getting her to perform at a biker bar which was about 6 hours out from the college, she gave him a chance. This later ended in them starting a relationship, when Joey was really just attempting to have a fling. During the brief relationship, Charlie managed to change and become committed, even willing to turn down an opportunity to tour with his band just to stay with her.

Joey, however, quickly shut that idea down, telling him that he'd regret it if he stayed, especially if he was only turning it down for a girl. The conflict of this was caused by Charlie's band getting an opportunity to go on a tour (This opportunity arose when Charlie's band mate, Lloyd, started dating the drummer of a Go-Go's tribute band named "Lust To Love".), which Charlie is initially hesitant about due to his newly started relationship with Joey. He is unsure on whether he should quit his band and stay with her or drop out of school to go on tour. However, after some convincing from Joey, he realizes that this is a huge opportunity that would be stupid to pass up on.

Personal Quirks

When he was younger, he used to play with naked barbie dolls which his mother took away. He claims that once you listen to Dolly Parton's original 1974 recording of "I Will Always Love You", you will truly understand, for perhaps the first time in your entire life, what it means not to suck.
