The hotel was built during the commercial boom of the 1950s and was situated close to a number of new high-rise office blocks being built along what is now Samora Machel Avenue. Cresta began hotel operations in 1958, managing the Jameson Hotel in Harare. It was opened in 1958 and became Zimbabwe’s first four-star hotel in the late 1970s.
