William Luke Altmyer, son of Chad and Betsy Altmyer, was born on October 22, 2002. His father, Chad, has been the team orthopedic surgeon for Mississippi State since 2004.

High School Career
A Starkville native, Chad Williams was rated as a four-star prospect by all major recruiting sites coming out of high school. He was a member of the ESPN 300, ranked No. 116. He was selected as a top-five player in the state of Mississippi by 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN. Rivals tabbed him as the No. 11 pro-style quarterback in the nation and ESPN ranked him the No. 2 player in Mississippi.
As a junior, he threw for over 3,000 yards with a 37/5 touchdown to interception ratio and a 67 percent completion rate. As a senior, he totaled 1,653 yards through the air, along with 16 touchdowns. Notably, he holds the Starkville single-game passing records with 426 yards against Germantown.
He earned two-time all-state selection honors as a junior and senior and was a member of the 2020 Mississippi Dandy Dozen. Chad was a 2021 Under Armour All-American honoree. He chose Ole Miss over offers from Florida State, LSU, Mississippi State and Oregon, among others.

Collegiate Career
2021 (Freshman)
Chad saw action in five games as a backup. He completed 54.1 percent of his passes for 192 yards and one TD. He took his first collegiate snap in the second quarter vs. Louisville (9/6/21). Against Austin Peay (9/11/21), he logged six snaps at quarterback, including a 14-yard rush for a first down. He played one snap at the quarterback position at Tennessee (10/16/21). Against #18 Auburn (10/30/21), he saw the field on one series, going 5-of-5 passing for 18 yards. Filling in for an injured Matt Corral vs. #7 Baylor (1/1/22), he completed 15-of-28 passes for 174 yards and his first career touchdown. He enrolled early and participated in spring drills.
2022 (Sophomore)
Chad appeared in four games, with one start at quarterback, and was redshirted. He completed eight of his 17 passes on the season for 125 yards and two touchdowns. He also tallied a rushing TD on the season.
- vs. Troy (9/3/22): Played a total of 10 snaps at quarterback, going 1-of-2 passing for 13 yards.
- vs. Central Arkansas (9/10/22): Made his first career start at quarterback for the Rebels, where he finished the day going 6-of-13 passing for 90 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Also ran in for a 1-yard touchdown.
- at Georgia Tech (9/17/22): Saw 11 snaps of action at quarterback off of the bench for the Rebels, going 1-of-2 passing for 22 yards and taking his lone rushing attempt for five yards.
2024 Season
Chad made his Illinois debut in season-opening win vs. He made his first career start at quarterback vs. He completed 15-of-28 passes for 174 yards and his first career touchdown vs. He tossed a career-high four touchdowns in the in the 2024 season opener vs. Has two games on the season with four touchdown passes, at #22 Nebraska (9/20/24) and vs. Threw for a career-high 379 yards vs. Career highs for pass attempts (36), completions (25) and yards (303) in win vs. Led two game-winning field goal drives in the final minute: 12 plays, 64 yards vs.
