Chad David Stevens, born on February 3, 1999, is an American professional baseball infielder. As of now, he is a free agent, marking a transition point in his career.
Early Years and Draft
Stevens attended Gig Harbor High School in Gig Harbor, Washington, where he honed his skills and began to attract attention from scouts. He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft, a testament to his potential even at that early stage.
However, instead of immediately turning professional, Stevens chose to play college baseball at the University of Portland. This decision allowed him to further develop his abilities and gain valuable experience.
Collegiate Career
During his time at the University of Portland, Stevens proved to be a valuable asset to the team. In 2018, as a true freshman, he started all 53 games at shortstop, hitting .251 with six doubles, two triples, 18 RBIs, and 22 runs scored. He also stole three bases and recorded a team-high 144 assists.
In 2019, he earned All-WCC Second Team honors and WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention. He led the team with a .284 batting average, 62 hits, 13 doubles, a triple, 12 stolen bases, and 46 runs scored. His 46 runs scored are the ninth most in a single season in Portland program history. In the field, his 150 assists rank number 10 on the program’s all-time single-season list.

The 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Stevens still managed to make an impact. He started in all 16 games and was named to the 2020 All-WCC Preseason Baseball Team. He batted .299 and led the team in games played (16), at bats (67), doubles (eight), and stolen bases (five).
Additionally, in 2019, he gained summer baseball experience playing with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, further refining his skills in a competitive environment.
