This review examines the Nigerian movie "Lost in Love," focusing on its storyline, character development, acting performances, and overall production quality. While the film attempts to portray a romantic drama, it ultimately falls short due to several critical flaws.
The movie centers around two best friends, Uche and Toyin, who both fall in love with Sunday, a man portrayed as a charming but flawed bachelor. However, the premise quickly unravels as Sunday is revealed to be a married cheat who has abandoned his wife and child. This casts a dark shadow over the supposed romance, making it difficult to find anything appealing in the characters' actions.
Lost in Love Movie Review by a Nigerian
Unoriginal and Uncompelling Story
The storyline of "Lost in Love" is far from original. It recycles the familiar trope of two friends falling for the same man, a theme explored in numerous other movies. While a familiar story can still be engaging if told in a compelling manner, this movie fails to deliver. It lacks excitement and fails to create a satisfying viewing experience.
The movie is premised on the fact that 2 friends fall in love with a flawed bachelor.
The story is not new - you have most likely seen several movies where 2 friends love the same man.

However , a good movie is not necessarily a movie that tells a story we have never seen before, a good movie is one that can tell a familiar story in a compelling manner. Was this movie compelling? No. Was it exciting? No. Was it satisfying?
Weak Character Development and Unlikable Protagonists
One of the major shortcomings of "Lost in Love" is its poor character development. The audience learns very little about the protagonists, making it difficult to connect with them or understand their motivations. Furthermore, the characters themselves are unlikable.
- Sunday is portrayed as a womanizer who shamelessly engages in infidelity.
- Uche is depicted as a kept woman who relies on her sugar daddy for her basic needs.
- Toyin starts as someone who was smarter and made better choices, but she did a u-turn as the movie progressed.
These characters fail to elicit sympathy or support from the viewers. They did not grow or evolve in this movie instead, we saw a case of character regression.
I don’t know about you people but all of them were annoying me and I was wondering who designed these characters?
Incoherent Plot Progression and Pretentious Ending
The plot progression in "Lost in Love" is disjointed and lacks clear direction. There is little to anticipate or look forward to, as the characters' actions and motivations often seem illogical. Even when the women discover Sunday's deceit, the consequences are minimal, and the film fails to deliver a satisfying resolution.

The end of the movie was even more annoying. The sickness, the letter, the $250k purchase of paintings that apparently came from Toyin, Toyin wishing them the best and telling them to live together happily.
The ending is particularly frustrating, with a series of contrived events and a pretentious attempt to whitewash cheating. The movie's portrayal of women is also problematic, as it reinforces negative stereotypes and suggests that a man, even a flawed one, is the ultimate prize.
Plot progression was not great. There was nothing to actually look forward to because we could all see that Sunday was just a manipulative jerk and these women just had poor taste in men, so there were no high points in this movie.
Technical Aspects and Acting
On the technical side, "Lost in Love" has some redeeming qualities. The production quality is generally good, with decent cinematography, setting, and lighting. However, the costume and makeup choices are questionable, particularly those affecting Nse. The earrings, the hair pin, the ugly wig and even the outfits just did not sit right.
The acting performances are a highlight of the movie, with Chidi Mokeme and Ini Edo receiving special recognition for their stellar work. Acting was the biggest win for this series, the actors did a great job.

Overall Impression
Overall, "Lost in Love" is a disappointing film that fails to live up to its potential. While it may be visually appealing, it suffers from an unoriginal story, weak character development, incoherent plot progression, and a pretentious ending. The movie's attempt to romanticize infidelity and its problematic portrayal of women further detract from its overall quality.
While it may be visually attractive, a Sunday affair is an underwhelming melodrama that lacks passion and energy. Unlikable protagonist, paper thin characterization, unappealing premise, pretentious ending.
