Mark Sears, the star point guard for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has captured attention with his impressive college basketball career. As he embarks on his final season, fans are eager to witness what he will accomplish. However, behind this All-American athlete stand two proud parents: Chad and Lameka Sears. Their influence and support have been instrumental in Mark's journey to success.
Mark grew up in Alabama, initially in Florence before settling in Muscle Shoals, where his basketball journey began. His parents, Chad and Lameka, have been constant figures in his life, providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way.
Chad Sears: A Former Football Standout
Chad, Mark's father, is a former football standout who brings a strong athletic background to the family. He played center and contributed to three consecutive national titles from 1993 to 1995. His professional aspirations led him to the Buffalo Bills in 2002, but a back injury unfortunately cut his career short.

Lameka Sears: The "Hype Mom"
Lameka, Mark’s mother, is no less impressive. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Athens State University. Today, she works as a retail account executive for the Times Daily. Lameka is known for her enthusiastic support of her son. She rocks custom, sparkly outfits, owning at least six or seven to every game. At the 2025 NCAA Tournament in Spokane, TBS cameras caught her mimicking Mark’s free throw routine. “If he’s on the line, I’m on the line,” she told Tuscaloosa News in March.
Lameka Sears, Mark's mother, enthusiastically supporting her son
Lameka is clearing the air about what she thinks of the benching of her son, Mark Sears, in Alabama basketball's game against LSU. The mom, known for sparkling in the stands as she shoots along with Sears, made a lengthy post to Instagram on Monday after drawing ire from the Crimson Tide fanbase over the weekend.
“As a Mother, while I may not agree with the decision, I recognize and respect Coach Oats and the entire Alabama's coaching staff. I did not agree with the choice to keep Mark on the bench for the entire second half, but I fully understand that in sports, especially at this level, these moments happen, and we all learn and grow from them."
"Mark didn't perform poorly (my opinion) __ sometimes shots just don't fall, but every player deserves a chance to regain their rhythm," Lameka continued, encouraging fans to "remain confident" and continue support on the "road of winning the national championship."

After broadcasters commented on a visibly "emotional" Sears on Saturday, Lameka defended her son for wearing his heart on his sleeve. She found the entire deal to be a "misinterpretation."
"Regarding personal moments that have been shared, I want to clarify that Mark's emotion on the bench was a reflection of his passion and commitment to his teammates. He didn't have the chance to perform," Lameka said.
In a comment under a post from Chad Sears, Mark's dad, admitted "wanna be basketball coach" Alan Lesley wrote:
"Yeah the enemy is working overtime. I thought what Nate Oats did tonight totally sucked... . It takes a whole team for a team to win. Mark is only one person and not responsible for playing low post defense and not responsible for #11 for LSU for having 15 rebounds in the first half.
A Balanced Support System
Both Chad and Lameka are American nationals, rooted in Alabama’s soil. Chad’s quiet strength balances her energy. As of March 2025, he’s averaging 19.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds this season.
