Amir Richardson Bio

Amir Richardson, born in Nice, France, is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. He is the son of former NBA All-Star Michael Ray Richardson, inheriting his father's height as he stands at 6-foot-5. Such is his heritage, born in France but of American and Moroccan descent, he is eligible to play for all three of these countries, although does have three caps for the latter and also represented them at the 2024 Paris Olympics too.

Before joining Le Havre, he was a product of the OGC Nice youth system. In July 2021, he signed his first professional contract with Le Havre. Now a towering midfield metronome, capable of scoring and breaking up play from the engine room, it is no surprise that he boasts such height given he is the son of American former basketball player Micheal Ray Richardson.

Personality Traits

Amir Richardson is identified as an ESTJ personality type and an Enneagram Type 9w8. As an ESTJ, Amir Richardson can be often described as self-confident, assertive, and outgoing. They are typically good at leading and motivating others. They may have difficulty working on a team, as they often like to be in charge.

ESTJs make great leaders, but they can also be inflexible and overbearing. If you are looking for a leader who is always willing to take charge, an ESTJ is a perfect choice. Maintaining a healthy order in their daily lives assists them in maintaining their balance and peace of mind. They have sound judgment and mental fortitude in times of stress.

Amir Richardson is an Enneagram Nine personality type with a Eight wing or 9w8. Nines often have a difficult time expressing their anger. They are more likely to display stubbornness and passive-aggresive behavior when defiance is necessary.

International Career

Amir Richardson has represented France at the U20 level and is currently part of Morocco’s U23 side. However, he is eligible to play for the USMNT through his father, Micheal Ray Richardson, the former basketball player.

Edgar Moreno has reported that the “USSF (Unites States Soccer Federation) has been in contact with Amir Richardson although the Moroccan Federation have been more aggressive in their approach and will look to call him up for the U23 qualifiers they see a clear pathway for him to play for the senior team in the near future.”

Morocco made it to the semi-finals of last year’s World Cup in Qatar. The prospect of representing the country would be tempting for the midfielder. Although, the USMNT has recently done a good job of recruiting dual nationals.

Potential Transfer to Everton

Everton may have tied up the bulk of their summer business, but there remains a gaping hole that still needs filling. After all, it cannot be argued that the sale of Amadou Onana has funded their entire transfer window. Fortunately, that is something they are now seeking to solve.

The latest on their pursuit of a new midfielder comes courtesy of French outlet L’Equipe, who detail the Toffees interest in Amir Richardson. This new report states that, whilst they are not alone in their efforts to acquire the midfielder, bids have already been sent.

It reads: ‘Amir Richardson (22 years old, under contract until 2027) is one of the courted Reims players. Successful Olympic Games with Morocco have only increased his rating in the market. ‘Several clubs have already positioned themselves: Ajax, Fiorentina, Roma and Everton. Some clubs have even sent an offer estimated at €9 million, excluding bonuses. Reims is waiting for €12 million (£10m), excluding bonuses.’

When compared to other midfielders across Europe, Richardson sits in the top 7% for non-penalty goals per 90, the top 9% for blocks per 90 and the top 13% for clearances per 90. It is this all-around mastery that led football analyst Ben Mattinson to wax lyrical about him, writing on X: ‘Amir Richardson. 6’5” freak athlete, technical profile. Moves with unheard of mobility for his height. Special profile.’

Given Onana’s progression, perhaps Thelwell could use this as a shining example of why Richardson should choose Everton as his next step over the alternatives.

Olympic Performance

With the 2024 Olympic Games coming to a close, the tournament has showcased a number of men's under-23 soccer stars who have caught the attention of fans and clubs alike.

Standing at 6-foot-6, it's been hard to miss 22-year-old Richardson during the Olympics, as he has dominated midfield contests for Morocco en route to a semifinal defeat by Spain. At the Olympics, beyond his sheer size and presence, Richardson has demonstrated admirable technical ability, the nous to win fouls and recycle possession intelligently, and a spurt of pace to beat his man and change the dynamic of a midfield battle.

He's now being linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur, with manager Ange Postecoglou having identified the former France under-21 midfielder as a worthy "Plan B" after appearing to miss out on Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, who is to join Atlético Madrid.
