African Pride 15 on Orange (Cape Town): A Detailed Review

The Capital 15 On Orange Hotel, formerly African Pride 15 On Orange, is set within Cape Town’s richly historical Company’s Garden and anchored by Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. Combining distinctive architecture and exquisite luxury, you know you have arrived somewhere unique the moment you step into the reception.

This classy hotel gives you the rare combination of big-hotel ease and boutique-hotel good looks. Set on the edge of the city center, 15 on Orange dishes up stylish and modern accommodation at surprisingly good value. The modern baroque interior of this delectable hotel is just the beginning of its appeal.

Location and Accessibility

Set in the upmarket suburb of Gardens at the foot of Table Mountain, the hotel is good for sightseeing and located near shopping areas. The hotel is right next to a Hop-on HOHO bus stop, a must. Stroll down to vibrant Kloof Street, a culinary destination full of trendy cafes, stunning restaurants, and cocktail bars. Next door is the Planetarium, and the V&A Waterfront is a mere 3km away.

It was an easy trip from the airport. Uber is the cheapest and best to/from the airport, costing roughly $15 in USD.

Rooms and Views

Suites on the south side of the hotel offer views of Table Mountain that are so gobsmacking you won’t want to drag yourself out of the lounge chairs facing the floor-to-ceiling picture windows. At sunset, the views get even better.

The upgraded room is HUGE, actually a suite with a living room area, and wake up with a view of the iconic mountain too. The gigantic bathroom also has a soaking tub with a view of Table Mountain.

Amenities and Services

The hotel features a small pool on the roof and a small gym on the roof. The fitness center has modern equipment.

We found the staff helpful and our room comfortable.

The platinum amenity was good. We chose a small bottle of water and a generous plate of cheese and crackers.

Dining

The rate for the first two nights included breakfast, and I skipped breakfast on the third and last day which was on points. The breakfast buffet is very nice with a choice of juices, pastries, fruit, cheese, sliced meat, yogurt, bread, cereal, eggs, bacon, and sausage with eggs made to order and of course coffee.

Alternative Boutique Hotels in Cape Town

The boutique hotels in Cape Town are, without exception, like small, beautiful works of art. Set in 11.5 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds at the foot of Wynberg Hill, the Alphen marries style, service, and history. The Last Word Constantia manages to live up to its name. Rooms, which are the size of small apartments, offer features like large open showers in front of spectacular garden-scene mosaics, mini-desserts with turndown service, and 300-thread count linens. The attention to detail here really sets The Last Word apart.

Located at the center of the action on the main Camps Bay strip, the too-cool-for-school vibe and hot decor attract a decidedly hip crowd. For those looking to soak up the Cape Town sun and watch the parade of beautiful people, there are four pools overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The restaurant’s hotel, The Tides, is also top-notch and one of the best in Cape Town.

Also on the Camps Bay strip and adjacent to The Bay hotel, The Marly is equally hip but offers a different type of experience. The light, bright rooms are minimalist but plush, accented with unique colors and fixtures. It’s hard to choose between the ocean view rooms or the mountain view rooms, because both offer different but equally breathtaking experiences.

Like the other two Camps Bay boutiques, POD features breathtaking views of the ocean with the Twelve Apostles as a backdrop. The rooms feature ultra-modern, open-plan design, and have bathrooms and showers that seamlessly blend into the rest of the room.

Literally tucked into the bottom of a cliff near Hout Bay, getting to Tinswalo involves a shuttle down a long, winding road. But the payoff is a swank, secluded experience where you are literally surrounded by the sea and swaddled in luxury, from the food to the service to the linens.
