The African Leadership Network (ALN) is a network for people who are passionate about developing 3 million leaders for Africa by 2035. It provides our attendees opportunities to deeply reflect on the role that they can play as agents of change and progress in their respective sectors. The ALN Annual Gathering brings together individuals who believe that ethical, decisive leadership is the most powerful lever for transforming Africa.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to create an annual convening place for those who believe in this vision to transform Africa. We serve to share updates and progress towards this vision through our affiliated organizations (African Leadership Academy, ALU Education & ALU School Of Business, amongst others).
With a group of over 30,000 leaders that reflects Africa’s diversity, the ALN community welcomes the continent’s most dynamic emerging entrepreneurs as well as prominent figures from the global realms of business, politics, and entertainment. Together, this collective shares ALG’s philosophy that leadership is the key to unlocking Africa’s potential.

Key Initiatives and Programs
ALN has hosted the Africa Awards for Entrepreneurship (AAE) since 2012. The Africa Business Fellowship is a new initiative matching American professionals with African businesses. The ABF has been profiled by Harvard Business Review and the Wall Street Journal and has been endorsed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, African Development Bank President Dr.

- Listened to Shabaka Basij-Rasikh, founder of the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA).
- Witnessed a performance from Danai Gurira’s award-winning play “Eclipse”.
- Osh Agabi, the CEO of Koniku showcased an AI Dog trained to detect over 4,000 scents for bio threats.
- Attendee-led breakout sessions covering topics like Beyond ChatGPT, Innovative Africa, and Unlocking Healthcare Through Technology.
- Africa Leadership Group’s transformative journey, with alumni representing ALX Graduates across the continent.

Notable Figures
H. E. Fred Swaniker is founder of AL Group, a group of organizations developing leadership in Africa. He has been named as a TED Fellow, an Aspen Institute Fellow, a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, an Echoing Green Fellow, one of Africa’s top ten young “power men” by Forbes, and one of 115 young leaders selected to meet President Obama at the White House. A former McKinsey & Company consultant, Fred has an MBA from Stanford Business School and a BA from Macalester College.
Acha Leke is Senior Partner with McKinsey & Company and Founder of their Lagos office. He has previously worked in McKinsey’s Johannesburg and Atlanta offices. He is also a Co-Founder of the African Leadership Academy. He has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and as one of Africa’s top ten young “power men” by Forbes. Acha earned his PhD and MS from Stanford University and BS from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
