East Head Café
This family restaurant on the lagoon and facing the famous Knysna Heads, is the perfect spot for breakfasts and lunch. The elegant décor makes this more than just the average coffee shop. Every item on the menu comes highly recommended which means that a visitor will have to visit here often to try everything out.
The outdoor shaded area is ideal for the hot summer days, because the constant breeze through the Heads cools you down in no time. On cold, windy and rainy days, warms meals can be enjoyed by the wood burning fireplace.
Have kids? Not a problem! Let them make new friends in the dedicated “kids play area” while mum and dad enjoy the relaxation environment with limited interference.
The Olive Tree
The Olive Tree is a unique and extremely popular restaurant where a reservation will ensure you are not turned away at the door. Because it is ‘owner managed’, attention to detail comes natural. Ellen is passionate about every guest and presenting the menu option to you personally, makes you feel as if you are in her home.
Set menus are unheard of and guests will be surprised by the chef’s choice of the day. A signature dish, fillet with the freshest garden vegetables and ‘family secret’ sauce, never disappoints. Even the vegetarian dishes sit well on the palette.
All foods are organic and no thickeners or preservatives are added. If you’re looking for home-made foods with a flair, this is the place to visit!
As Ellen (owner) said to me, “We are all about food. Freshness on a daily basis. I’m from Dutch descent and therefore known for my fabulous fillet!”
The Anchorage
Operating for the past 20 years, this restaurant offers a wide range of traditional seafood cuisine as well as beef dishes. The signature sole dish is always a popular choice.
The cosy-casual environment displays an intimate feel, with soft music in the background. During the summertime, one can enjoy a drink on the deck.
Brian, owner, focuses on giving guests an unforgettable experience with hands-on service and a personalised approach. Undeniably a restaurant not to be missed and suitable for the entire family!
Ille de Pain
IIle de Piane is classic and vibrant. The enthusiasm can be seen in the colourful foods and vibrant flavours. Despite a recent disastrous fire that gutted the whole premises, they rebuilt to their previous standards and more!
The smell of fresh bread lures you inside where the variety of pastries never disappoints. Bread is freshly baked daily and a favourite choice is the Crispy Nutty Baguette, a wheat and rye bread with a slightly crispy and nutty taste.
Food is simple and wholesome. One can choose from a selection of soups, salads and Café lunches.
Dessert choices are always difficult. Whether you prefer a fruity or creamy dessert, there will always be one you will need to return for. For the chocolate lovers, the restaurant offers the best quality chocolate from around the world.
