Commitment to Sustainability and Conservation
Wild Horizons’ and the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust's commitment to environmental sustainability shines brightly through its introduction of alternative energy sources in rural communities. Recognising the detrimental impact of deforestation on both local habitats and global ecosystems, the organization has championed the adoption of biogas digesters.
Zimbabwe’s struggle with electricity shortages has exacerbated the reliance on firewood, accelerating the rate of deforestation. With hundreds of thousands of hectares lost annually, the country faces significant environmental challenges. However, the biogas digester stands as a powerful antidote to this destructive trend. Not only does it offer a sustainable energy alternative, but it also addresses the root causes of deforestation by reducing the demand for wood fuel.
The impact of Wild Horizons’ biogas initiative extends far beyond conservation and protecting wildlife corridors; it’s a catalyst for positive change on multiple fronts. By providing a reliable source of energy for cooking and heating, it enhances livelihoods. Moreover, as fewer trees are felled, the carbon footprint shrinks, contributing to the global fight against climate change.
