Each season brings fresh faces and old favorites together, allowing viewers to watch how each contender adapts and grows with a new set of challenges and builds on previous experiences.

Halloween Baking Championship season 9, episode 2 was filled with twists. The episode was once again two hours, which continues to feel too long, but with so many bakers, it makes sense why they feel the need to do that.

This season honed storytelling through baking, allowing the contestants to tell stories through their bakes. The Halloween Baking Championship is a mix of creative cuisine and the spirit of Halloween, giving viewers such a thrilling show. Let's delve into some memorable moments and contestants from the show.

Chad's Inspiring Challenge

Among the contestants is Chad, whose journey on the show further raised questions in the minds of the fans. Chad made so many people like him while staying on the show. His baking techniques were just not out of the ordinary and creative among all participants.

However, one episode created interest among fans when Chad seemed not normal. His health started becoming a speculation theme after Chad's sickness began trending all over social media. The illness was appalling to me. Did you people not live through the same global pandemic we all did? I liked Chad and I was sorry he had to leave but he should have been masked and he should have left the kitchen before he contaminated the whole place. I shuddered watching it. The first sniffle should have had him met by a medic with a COVID test and a facemask.

Yeah, most people since the last three years we have all lived through have the decency to, at the first real cough, remove themselves from nearby people! (Though maybe that's just me-- my husband was recently on an airplane, to Texas if it matters, and everyone around him was sneezing and coughing, maskless.

However, Chad still insisted and showcased his baking talent by persisting tenaciously. His determination in such a difficult situation not only inspired the other contestants but also for the audience. This incident brought into public view not just the psychosomatic pressure of competition but also the need to take care of one's mental health as well as physical health in the most stressful situations.

Unfortunately, at a certain point, he was getting dizzy, and he decided to take himself out of the competition.

Centerville resident Chef Chad Conklin, a luminary in the local culinary world, answered his calling in the kitchen of Middletown's Marshall High School. With a resume boasting Secchia Institute for Culinary Education and world-renowned Johnson & Wales University, Chef Chad could have pursued a career in any prestigious establishment.

Before teaching, Chef Chad was a consultant helping restaurants to revamp their desserts. His desserts are artistic creations, which he works to innovate consistently through his business, Attica.

Episode 2 Highlights

For the Thriller challenge, the bakers had to make bloody donuts! And they definitely did that. Most of the donuts looked like bloody messes, and I mean that in the best way possible. They were gory and fried, and they all looked incredibly delicious.

The top two bakers for this challenge were Ryan and James, and James came out on top! He made a ginger donut with peach mango filling and fried mango. It looked ridiculously good!

On to the Killer challenge! For this round, the bakers had to make a carousel cake. One side had to be happy and joyful, and the other side needed to be demonic and dark. To say this wasn’t an easy challenge would be the understatement of the year.

Christa and Adesuwa’s cakes completely fell apart, and they had to quickly wrap them in acetate and shove them in the blast chiller. It was a solution I’d never seen before and one that worked pretty well. But just watching their cakes crumble was so stressful.

Beyond the drama, some of the cakes looked pretty good, while others looked like full-on messes. It was a toss-up. The judges seemed to like most of the flavors at least.

It was once again Ryan and James, and James won again with his ube and coconut-flavored cake. The way he decorated his cake was incredibly artistic.

The bottom two were Christa and Phoebe, and Phoebe was the one to go home. With the amount of cloves she gave the judges in the Thriller challenge (Carla Hall’s tongue went numb), there was no way she was sticking around for too long.
