Morocco Population Statistics: Trends, Demographics and Urbanization

Morocco, a diverse country with Berber, Arabian, and European influences, presents a landscape that features mountains, desert, and a coastline stretching along the Atlantic Ocean. The Morocco Population (Live) counter shows a continuously updated estimate of the current population of Morocco delivered by Worldometer's RTS algorithm, which processes data collected from the United Nations Population Division.

Here's an overview of Morocco's population statistics, covering various aspects from population growth to urbanization.

Population Growth and Forecasts

The Population of Morocco (1950 - 2025) chart plots the total population count as of July 1 of each year, from 1950 to 2025. The Yearly Population Growth Rate chart plots the annual percentage changes in population registered on July 1 of each year, from 1951 to 2025. This value can differ from the Yearly % Change shown in the historical table, which shows the last year equivalent percentage change assuming homogeneous change in the preceding five year period.

For forecasted years, the U.N. medium-fertility variant is used.

A Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.1 represents the Replacement-Level Fertility: the average number of children per woman needed for each generation to exactly replace itself without needing international immigration. A value below 2.1 will cause the native population to decline.

Safi is the main fishing port for the country's sardine industry, and also exports phosphates, textiles and ceramics.

The city was under Portuguese rule from 1488 to 1541; it is believed that they abandoned it to the Saadians (who were at war with them), since the city proved difficult to defend from land attacks. After 1541, the city played a major role in Morocco as one of the safest and biggest seaports in the country.
