John Mulinde (1960s-) is a Ugandan preacher, apostle, and founder of World Trumpet Mission (WTM), an international ministry dedicated to fostering revival and preparing the church for Christ’s return. Born in Uganda-exact date unavailable but estimated in the early 1960s-he graduated with a degree in mathematics from Makerere University before transitioning to full-time ministry following a profound spiritual encounter in 1986. During this experience, he received a divine call to “blow the trumpet” to awaken the church globally, which led him to establish WTM in 1988 in Kampala.
Married to Sheila, with whom he has nine children, Mulinde has integrated his family into his ministry, earning recognition as a spiritual father to many in Uganda and beyond. Mulinde’s preaching career has focused on mobilizing the Body of Christ for repentance and mission, notably contributing to Uganda’s spiritual transformation in the 1980s through prayer movements that influenced national shifts, including President Yoweri Museveni’s rededication of Uganda to Christianity. As Global Overseer of WTM, headquartered at the Nations Prayer Mountain in Seguku, he has preached in over 50 countries, including Taiwan and Germany, and initiated the Go Nations movement to complete the Great Commission.

The Message of Repentance and Prayer
John Mulinde’s preaching and testimony have been all over the internet. A self proclaimed he also travels world spreading the word about what he calls his prophetic message. He is an engaging and powerful speaker. His delivery is smooth and seemingly heartfelt as he lays out his message. He claims it is one of repentance and a call to prayer.
Mulinde’s sermon is presented in the style of a personal testimony. He claims that Jesus came and spoke with him in a vision. My eyes were opened to re-examine my beliefs about God, and my relationship with Him. Suddenly, I realised that much of what I believed in my faith was picked up from what I had heard often, preached, confessed by others or just assumed generally, and not necessarily what the bible taught. A lot of it was designed to make me feel comfortable and apathetic, even when my life was glaringly out of line with the Word of God.

Nevertheless, I realise that the surrender made on that day opened the door to a great calling that the Lord had for my life. (It is my prayer that this testimony will lead those who hear it also, to allow Him to lead them to repentance, and total surrender to Him in a way that will open the door to the purposes He has for them. I also know that there are those who have already made this surrender and the going may be very hard by the time they read this little testimony. It is my prayer that, even those will be encouraged to go on and not turn back from following God unreservedly. We are all created for His purposes. His plans for our lives are not for failure, but for hope and success: to bring us to the desired end (Jer.
Dr. Mulinde is working to mobilize a movement in the global Body of Christ-- i.e. John Mulinde, World Trumpet Mission has its roots in the jungles of Uganda, where travailing prayer during oppressive government dictatorships birthed a movement that brought about the transformation of the whole nation. It has grown to be an international, interdenominational ministry with a global mission and mandate to ‘blow the trumpet’ of the impending Day of the Lord, awakening and equipping the Church, and provoking them to finish Christ’s mission to the nations.

Concerns and Controversies
When we listen to it closely, though, it is something very different. It is the work of someone trying to steal our liberty, our freedom that Jesus bought for us on the Cross.

But the rest of the story is absolutely fatal to manipulation and servitude. After death on the Cross, Jesus is raised to new life and offers us the same freely without anything offered on our part. Jesus replaces the old sinful man we were with a new man and simply tells us to follow Him from that moment forward. Abundant life follows. Salvation freely given and never earned is not useful to false teachers. They can’t use it to get their hooks in people so they distort it…in big ways and more subtle.
Mulinde doesn’t stop with simply being self-centered in his message. He goes way further and describes a very different Jesus. Mulinde’s Jesus is mad at him for not working hard enough. Mulinde’s Jesus is demanding. His Jesus is also focused on the works of His creation rather than on His own work on Calvary. The Savior who preached the Gospel of Grace is not actually full of grace - unmerited favor - in Mulinde’s story.
Mulinde’s Jesus goes even further than simply demanding works. When Mulinde tearfully repents of his alleged sins, Mulinde’s Jesus refuses his repentance. Mulinde’s Jesus decides that he was not sorry enough. This Jesus is not filled with love for His sheep. This Jesus is not filled with compassion for his very flawed creations. He is demanding and arbitrary. This gospel is one of achievement and striving. More, more, more, Mulinde needs to do more works before his repentance will be accepted. That is right, the Savior evidently is reliant upon the sinful creation to make His redemption work.
There is one major problem with the message though. John Mulinde is not alone in his false perversion of the Gospel message. There are many people preaching this version of the gospel out there today. It has been a consistent threat to Christians since Jesus walked the Earth.
Taking attention away from Jesus is never good. He gave everything to save us completely. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

In other cases the enemy has turned it into free liberalism, which allows people to gratify all their human desires, in total disregard of God or His Word. The Lord said that many servants of the gospel have become hypocrites, healing the wound of His people only on the surface: preaching “peace, peace” when there is no peace (Jer.
According to how each lived his or her life, so exactly shall he or she be rewarded (Rev. 22:12-13/Rom. 2:4-11); this is in spite of all the modern teachings of superficial grace that are so popular today (2 Tim. It is so clearly stated what the end will be like for people embracing sinful lifestyles lusting after the flesh and the world. The devil knows that the time is so short to the end (Rev. If it were not for the love of Christ, all would be deceived in this dark era; even all the elect would not survive. However, our Lord’s love burns jealously for His people. He wants to open our eyes to see the works of the devil for what they really are, and to be able to resist them and be overcomers (John 16:33, Rev. 3:21-22).
All isn’t well among the top leadership of the Balokole/Pentecostal Churches in Kampala. Apostle John Mulinde, who famously leads World Trumpet Missions Ministries which owns Seguku-based Prayer Mountain among other well known establishments, is choking on a brewing marital crisis or dilemma whereby the young lady he wants to take on for a wife has been rejected by majority of his close friends. The woman he is madly in love with and wants to take up has been identified by many fellow pastors and Balokole elders as ill-mannered and therefore unsuitable for such a well-celebrated man of God with a globally-diverse flock.
Mulinde is huge to the extent that he ministers to thousands even in the US and he these days does much of his ministry work abroad than in Uganda. His current determination to officially marry and take on this new woman (names withheld) is preceded by secretive but very exhaustive divorce proceedings which fortunately have since been concluded, leaving him free to move on.
Fellow seniors have been speaking to him advising against taking on this new babe on grounds that it has divinely been revealed to them that she isn’t well-intentioned beyond just having her eye on Mulinde’s vast estate that is worth several billions of shillings. Some have gone as far as predicting that the resultant trauma and stress will culminate into God’s general, that Mulinde has grown into, losing his own life enabling the new babe to wholly inherit his estate. Some have even disputed the new babe’s spiritualty and devotion to Mulinde’s brand of Christianity.
Some are fearful that getting hooked to that young lady might see Apostle Mulinde end up in marital woes similar to what befell Pastor Isaac Kiwewesi or even worse a few years into his marriage with Sasha, the young Kampala corporate he famously took up for a wife more than 20 years ago only to end up regretting and diminishing his brand as a revered man of God.
