Ethiopian Cities: A Comprehensive Overview

Ethiopia, located in the Horn of Africa, is the second-most populated country in Africa, home to over 122,512,659 people. The country falls on the latitude of 8° North and the longitude of 38°East.

Ethiopia's history is characterized by a series of powerful empires and kingdoms, including the Aksumite Empire, which rose to prominence in the 1st century AD and was known for its impressive architecture and trade networks. Ethiopia was one of the few African nations to fend off European colonization; Italy's late-19th-century invasion attempt was famously repulsed at the Battle of Adwa in 1896. Up until 1936, Ethiopia was a sovereign nation. Nevertheless, Italy invaded and conquered Ethiopia during World War II.

Ethiopia's culture is diverse and has been influenced by a long history of various ethnic and religious groupings. Ethiopians are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality, and as coffee ceremonies are a significant aspect of Ethiopian culture, they are frequently used to welcome guests to the nation. Ethiopian cuisine is a significant part of the nation's culture as well; notable meals include wat, a fiery stew, and injera, a sourdough flatbread. Ethiopian culture also values music and dance, with instruments like the krar and masenqo being used for traditional music during feasts and ceremonies.

The most widely spoken language in Ethiopia is Oromo, spoken by approximately 34% of the population, followed by Amharic, spoken by approximately 29% of the population. Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia and is used in government, education, and media.

The geography of the country is varied, with hills, plateaus, and lowlands. Some of the highest mountains in Africa may be found in the Ethiopian Highlands, which lie in the country's center. Mount Ras Dashen is the highest peak in Ethiopia. Several sizable rivers, notably the Blue Nile, which rises in Ethiopia and empties into Sudan, can be found in the highlands. Ethiopia has a varied climate due to its diverse topography, but is generally classified as tropical monsoon and subtropical highland.

For administrative purposes, Ethiopia is divided into regional states and chartered cities. The Ethiopia political map shows the national capital, major cities, provinces, and other political divisions of the country. The national capital, Addis Ababa is clearly marked on the map with a red dot enclosed in a square. The regions are each governed by a regional council whose members are directly elected to represent woredas (districts). Each council has a president, who is elected by the council. Each region also has an executive committee, whose members are selected by the president from among the councilors and approved by the council. Ethiopia was historically divided into provinces.
