Initially known for her career as a radio DJ, where she interviewed celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio to Oprah Winfrey, she has gained recognition in recent years for her personal life and professional achievements in real estate and television.

In 2022, her husband, Mike Jackson, also stepped into the spotlight through their appearances on "Rock the Block" and their reality show, "Married to Real Estate," offering viewers an intimate look into their lives.

The Serendipitous Beginning of a Relationship

Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson's journey to becoming stars on HGTV began with diverse professional paths. Both had careers as DJs, though in different genres. Jackson described his fascination with the art form to Shoutout Atlanta, saying, "From the moment I knew what two turntables were, and the effect the right song could have on people, I was hooked." He added, "I was dedicated to the craft."

Their initial meeting took place at a New York nightclub where Jackson was DJing. "I saw her backstage, and the light was literally only on her. From that moment on, I knew she was my wife. I told the security guard to let me back there, because I needed to talk to someone," Jackson told HGTV. However, Sherrod was hesitant, suspecting he might be a player.

Fate intervened months later at New York's Puerto Rican Day parade, where they were on separate floats. Jackson, however, refrained from asking for her number to avoid potential rejection in front of her friend.

Fate and Rooftop Rescues

Fate continued to play a significant role in their relationship. Sherrod recounted to HGTV (via People) that while flipping a house, she received a referral to a local real estate broker who turned out to be Jackson. "So, I actually ended up saving her on a rooftop with her foot stuck in a hole cause she tried to do some DIY project, you know. So, I went from being the DJ to saving the day in construction," Jackson said.

He reflected on their chance encounters, saying, "That's what's so amazing about it."

Overcoming Obstacles

Their path to marriage was not without its challenges. One reason for postponing their wedding was to address issues with the mother of Jackson's first child. Eventually, Jackson and his former partner reached a custody agreement, and in September 2010, he married Sherrod at a country club in New Jersey. "I knew that I was marrying the right man," Sherrod said.

Sherrod also had to confront her own past experiences before fully committing to the marriage. "Even when we're done with the relationship, we still carry those bruises with us," Sherrod explained. She acknowledged needing to change her behavior after Jackson pointed out that she was projecting past hurts onto him. She sought professional therapy to address these issues.

After postponing their wedding to resolve personal issues, Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod married in 2010 at New Jersey's West Mount Country Club. "I turned into bridezilla," Sherrod later admitted to Essence. The guest list included notable figures like Coko of '90s R&B girlband and Q Parker of vocal harmony group 112.

Expanding the Family

After welcoming their first child, Kendall, in 2012, Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson sought to expand their family, which included Jackson's grown-up daughter Simone from a previous marriage. Despite trying for five years, they faced challenges conceiving. Sherrod, suffering from endometriosis, was scheduled for a partial hysterectomy. However, just before the surgery, she discovered she was pregnant.

"With the health issues, I thought I ran out of time," Sherrod added. She recalled being referred to as having a "geriatric pregnancy" by doctors. In 2019, Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod welcomed their second daughter, Harper.

Postpartum Challenges and Recovery

"When I got back home and laid down to go to sleep, it felt like I was drowning," Sherrod told Essence, recounting her postpartum experience. She suffered from fluid overload in her lungs following a cesarean section and might have lost her life if she hadn't returned to the hospital. Fortunately, Sherrod made a full recovery but had to maintain a cardio diet and undergo regular checks for cardiomyopathy, a condition prevalent in her family. She also dealt with postpartum depression.

Balancing Business and Pleasure

Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson have been combining their personal and professional lives since their first house renovation project in the 2000s. "When you work together, especially for what we do, it's almost 24/7," Jackson told Us Weekly in 2025. They often find creative ways to spend quality time together. "It's hard for him to get away, so I'll bring lunch to him," Sherrod explained.

Besides making time for each other, they have rules to maintain a healthy marriage, including communication, laughter, and flirtation. "We have rediscovered the power of having our own personal space," Sherrod explained. They also emphasize the importance of talking "to one another" rather than "at one another."

Navigating Marital Challenges

Sherrod has previously admitted to marital issues. "Not understanding what was going on was more frustrating than anything because I could feel there was a wall being put up," Sherrod said, referring to communication problems. Therapy sessions proved beneficial. "It was just about being there and being a shoulder to lean on," Jackson acknowledged.

Transition to Television

While Egypt Sherrod has been on television since the early 2010s with shows like "Property Virgins," "Flipping Virgins," and "Urban Oasis," Mike Jackson is relatively new to the TV world. Sherrod explained that being confined indoors led to creative inspiration. "Being sort of shut in together, and we're both running our respective businesses from the kitchen counter, and we have our kids in virtual school at the other end." Their social media content led to the suggestion of creating a sizzle reel.

Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod are open about their relationship's ups and downs. At the 2019 Black Love Summit in Atlanta, they discussed their sex life, with Jackson emphasizing the importance of variety. He also appreciates Sherrod's confidence and femininity. "For me, it wasn't the wigs and everything that turned me on," Jackson told the panel. "It was the fact that she was so tuned in with her feminine side, her womanity even more that she was comfortable in her skin. That was the sexy part. It's not just about the man."

Beyond Real Estate and TV

Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod have various interests outside of real estate and television. Sherrod has written an NAACP Image Award-nominated book, "Keep Calm . . . It's Just Real Estate: Your No-Stress Guide to Buying a Home," while Jackson continues his DJ career. They also enjoy extreme sports like rock climbing and skydiving. "It was crazy, because when I jumped out of the plane, I started feeling queasy and I thought it was the air pressure," Sherrod wrote on her blog.

Embracing Beauty and Wellness

Even as a new mom in 2012, Sherrod told Hello Beautiful that she tries not to pay attention to the beauty standards that come with being in the media industry. "The pressure on women especially to look a certain way or be a certain size in the entertainment business can be overwhelming," she said. "Being on television adds additional pressure ... I am conscious of my weight and my appearance, because I want to feel healthy and look good."

Egypt Sherrod maintains a strict beauty routine, prioritizing hydration and minimal makeup. "I try not to wear makeup. I need to give my skin some downtime. I usually scrub with apricot scrub and then moisturize with Aquaphor," she told the Cocotique blog in 2014. She also prioritizes hydration and introduced a new sleep routine in December 2024. "Remember a few weeks ago I said I was going to try the 8/8/8 lifestyle? 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of work and 8 hours of personal time?" she captioned a photo with Mike Jackson. "Well the only thing I've been able to nail is the 8 hours of sleep so far. But it is making a difference for my circadian rhythm and my [body's] metabolic system and my ability to lean out and lose weight."

Real Estate Insights from Egypt Sherrod

Sherrod shared valuable insights for first-time home buyers. HGTV created “Property Virgins” to document the challenges of first-time buyers. Sherrod advises that the first step is to consult with a mortgage professional to evaluate finances and debt-to-income ratio. This will provide a clear picture of affordability.

She noted that buyers often have unrealistic expectations, and the show helps adjust these expectations to something more realistic. She also mentioned that New Yorkers are often surprised to find they can afford more than they thought, given their familiarity with high rents for small spaces.

Sherrod cautions against being "house poor," where one spends all their money on buying a house and has nothing left for furnishings or enjoying life. She stressed the importance of consulting with a mortgage professional and advises that mortgage and taxes should not exceed about one-third of monthly salary, even in New York City.

When asked what drew her to real estate, Sherrod explained that she was looking for a smart way to invest the money she earned as a radio personality. "Everything I was taught from early on embedded in my mind that investing in real estate was the way to go. So, I started buying dilapidated properties and flipping them for profit." After two years of successful flipping, she obtained her real estate license to sell her own properties.
