Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers caters to various budgets and privacy preferences:
- Family/Group Rooms: Equipped with one large double bed and a bunk bed, with the option of adding an extra single bed. These rooms feature a private shower and toilet enclosed in a charming courtyard.
- Private Rooms: Offer more privacy with an en-suite shower and a large double bed, with the option to add a third bed.
- Dormitories: Provide spacious and comfortable beds in an airy and relaxing environment.
Facilities and Activities
Guests can enjoy a range of facilities and activities:
- Swimming Pool: Rebuilt with new night lights and seating, it's a perfect place to relax.
- Communal Kitchen: A vast communal kitchen is available for cooking your own meals.
- Restaurant: Order all your meals from the restaurant, with weekly "All you can Pizza" every Friday and "All you can eat Burgers" every Tuesday.
- Bar: A fully-stocked bar is available to relax with other travelers.
- Activities: Enjoy sunset beach volleyball, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, scubadiving, traditional sunset sailing, and local village dinners.
Other common facilities include vast communal areas with sofas and cushions where to relax and read your book in peace or to work on your laptop using the new wifi connection! The Creek beach is a short walk from the compound, fantastic under the stars or for sundowners.

The amenities are super clean and my favorite part are the lots of lounge areas. The wifi is great. The beach is literally 5 minutes walk, and the swimming pool on site is clean. The activities were awesome and I would definitely recommend this great stay for anyone coming to the coast."

How to Get There
After crossing Kilifi bridge, continue driving straight past Tusky's supermarket. Turn left when you see the sign "Makuti Villas" as well our sign “Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers”. Follow the signs from there - we are located about 2.5km down this dirt road.
We also have a vast secure car park which can accommodate large vehicles (e.g. overland trucks).
