Chad Trout: A Rising Star in Sprint Car Racing

Central PA racer Chad Trout has made a significant name for himself in the world of Sprint Car racing, particularly in the ranks of 358 racing across several states with the URC sanction. A veteran of several local racing divisions, Trout is a relative newcomer to the super sprint ranks.

He initially ventured into super sprint racing on his own for a season before teaming up with Jimmy Walker for a return a year and a half ago. Despite Walker's unexpected passing last season, the team rallied together to continue racing.

Triumph at Lincoln Speedway

Dover's Chad Trout achieved a significant milestone with a win in the 410 Sprint ranks, securing victory at Saturday’s chilly Ice Breaker 30 at Lincoln Speedway. And now they have a win in an event that gets plenty of attention. Did I mention that Trout’s Ice Breaker win was a great way to celebrate his 39th birthday?

A Versatile Racer

Trout now joins a select group of local drivers who have achieved victories in the 410 sprints, 358 sprints, and super sportsman racers. Throughout his career, Trout has secured 16 wins in the 358 sprints across four different tracks, including:

  • 10 wins at Lincoln
  • 4 wins at Williams Grove
  • 1 win at Port Royal
  • 1 win at Susquehanna

In the super sportsman ranks, Trout has won five times at four tracks, including:

Ice Breaker 30 Recap

Lincoln’s Ice Breaker 30 took place a week later than scheduled on a sunny but blustery Saturday. While the crowd wasn't record-breaking, it was still a good turnout, although the field was slim with only 20 410 sprint cars in the pits. Despite this, many of the area’s top contenders participated, and the racing was exciting despite the windy conditions that dried out the track.

Trout started second and took the lead when pole sitter Lucas Wolfe encountered mechanical issues on the second lap, but other drivers also made significant progress. Brandon Rahmer advanced from ninth to finish second, and his brother, Freddie, moved from 12th to sixth.

Alan Krimes was the most notable driver in terms of passing, overcoming mechanical problems before his heat race to start last (20th) in the feature and ultimately finish eighth.

Challenges and Setbacks

Several drivers faced difficulties during the event:

  • Lucas Wolfe, who started first, had to retire due to a broken fuel valve.
  • Defending track champion Brian Montieth was turned around, collecting defending race winner Danny Dietrich.
  • Greg Hodnett spun 360 degrees but managed to continue with a damaged front wing, finishing fifth.
  • Montieth finished 11th after rejoining the back, while Dietrich was credited with a last-place finish.
  • Cole Duncan, an Ohio invader, started fourth but tangled with a spun car, finishing 15th.

Freddie Rahmer also had an eventful day. He was second fastest in warm ups, but clipped the inside guardrail in turn one on the last lap of the last warm up and flipped. In the time it took to race just one heat race, Freddie and crew repaired his car well enough to come from last to sixth in the heat race.
