Chad Johnson: From NFL Star to Personal Life Controversies

Chad Javon Johnson, born on January 9, 1978, in Miami, Florida, is a former American football wide receiver who played eleven seasons in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins.

Known by the nickname Ochocinco, Johnson made a fortune of $5 million through his career with the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and Montreal Alouettes.

Football Career and Achievements

Johnson spent 10 seasons in Cincinnati, earning six Pro Bowl selections and being named first-team All-Pro four times. In 2006, he led the league in receiving yards. In 2011, CNBC named him the number 1 "Most Influential Athletes In Social Media".

During Hispanic Heritage Month in 2006, Johnson wore jersey number 85 and announced his desire to be called "Ocho Cinco," which translates to "eight five" in Spanish. In 2008, Johnson legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ochocinco, but in 2012, he reverted to Chad Johnson.

Comparison to A.J. Green

Johnson has praised A.J. Green, another Bengals receiver. “To me he’s the greatest (Bengals receiver) of all time because he can do things I wasn’t able to do,” Johnson told Bengals.com. “High-point the ball. And he’s a much more consistent pass-catcher than I was.”

Green has been putting up eye-popping numbers, with four games of 120 yards or more. He already ranks third in franchise history in receiving yards (7,067), and can pass Isaac Curtis (7,101) in his next game. Johnson's 10,783 yards might take a little longer, but are certainly achievable.

With 896 receiving yards already this season, Green could also break Johnson's single-season record of 1,440 yards. “What better player would you want to break your record?” Johnson asks. “Someone like that."

Personal Life and Relationships

In 2010, Johnson proposed to Evelyn Lozada, and they married in July 2012. However, Lozada filed for divorce only a month later, with the divorce finalized in September 2012. A few days before Lozada filed for divorce, Johnson was arrested on a charge of domestic battery.

He entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery, avoiding jail time, and he got a year of probation. Johnson has 7 kids with 6 different women.

Johnson has a number of tattoos all over his body, but the most famous one is the tattoo of his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada's face on his leg.

Breakup with Sharelle Rosado

The breakup between Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson and Sharelle Rosado has taken a dramatic turn, with Rosado revealing that she discovered text messages from other women on Johnson's phone before their split. "When we were together, there were some... going on and I found out about it, texting other women, you know, [inaudible] around," she told Carlos King during an appearance on the "Reality with the King" podcast.

Rosado, known for her role on the reality TV show "Selling Tampa," shared her thoughts on the matter after revealing what nobody knew but plenty suspected. When they broke up, she shared the news on X, stating that they were no longer together and asking fans to stop tagging her in photos with the former Cincinnati Bengals player. She added a pointed comment, "He is a free man ladies," which has led to speculation about the reasons behind their breakup. She deleted the post after.

Chad Johnson, a retired NFL star, has addressed the breakup on his podcast, "Nightcap," expressing his feelings and acknowledging the challenges of navigating a public breakup. He mentioned that he is blocked by Rosado and is unsure how to proceed, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.

"I respect Chad and at the end of the day, we're still a family, no matter what things happen," Rosado said. "Nobody's perfect and I'm not here to judge him. I've had infidelity issues. It happened to me. I did it to someone."

After the Dolphins

Philbin did not want the distraction that Johnson's arrest would bring, and it's hard to blame him. The Dolphins organization rescued Johnson off the scrap heap when perhaps no other team would. Around the League's Brian McIntyre reported in June that the Dolphins gave the former Mr. Ochocinco a contract with no guaranteed money.

The Dolphins wanted to see how it all worked out in August before committing to him. Things went well on the field. Johnson was listed as a starter, along with Legedu Naanee and Davone Bess, on Miami's first depth chart. But Johnson didn't hold up his end of the bargain off the field.

Young, talented players often get second, third and fourth chances. The Titans haven't given up on wide receiver Kenny Britt despite his eight incidents with police since he was drafted in 2009. Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson scored a huge contract despite having DUI convictions on his record. Johnson, however, is nearing the end of his career.

NFL Network and NFL.com's Steve Wyche talked to league executives on Sunday night who believe Johnson could have trouble finding work in the short term. Johnson's legal case likely will have to play out before any team considers him. Teams will want to see if Johnson is subject to discipline by the league.

There's no telling how long that will take, but it would be surprising to see Johnson on a roster in Week 1, when contracts are guaranteed for the entire season. It's possible Johnson will get another shot some day, but now he must focus on his family and his court case. Just a week after Johnson said that his life is football, his life in football is on hold.

Johnson has spent his whole life playing sports and he still remains in a great shape by exercising regularly.
